in reply to: Need help with carbon arrow selection #60125
New breed archer
I am just a beginner in building EFOC arrows. I decided to try it- with the thought, if I could get to/above 30% and 650grs –{if my arrow ended up a little forward} , I would have a better chance of getting thru the shoulder blade of wt/mddeer. I also hunt elk where it would be a requirement [IMHO]so why not have one arrow for most big game[simpler /cheaper/etc] one traj to become perfect with –
easy with Carbons { tuffheads — Total arrow weight 730 [30%}
still working on woods –perfect flight with 225 th and poc -640grs. try one of the other woods next–

Great video — always enjoy your experiments and information on efoc, nothing like direct from the field.
Noticed you are using a new bow – same poundage ? 60#?

in reply to: Helle knife kit #54050I took a look at the dryad helle knife site – A lot of interesting reasonably priced models. There were a couple of Triple laminated Carbon blades also –hmmm. Might have to try one out, after the significant praise being remarked upon here.

in reply to: How many bows do you have? #52287I have 3 recurves { Shakespeare -Ocala , Bear Kmag / super Kodiak} 6 R/D longbows {3 Centaurs, 3 Shrews }for a current total of 9. I shoot a Centaur custom cocobolo/yew 60# and a Shrew Samurai TD 56# the most. Although I will probably use my Shrew CH osage/phenolic 49# for turkey this spring
It is great to have a bunch of different bows to choose from – but as dave Said –the arrows and the retraining between styles and weights can be time consuming. keeps it interesting!

in reply to: Mother Earth News #48092I have not read M E N in awhile but went and found a copy and enjoyed Davids Article [ as usual]. Explained the TB ethic/hunting style/Raison d’etre etc{ the Why’s & Wherefore’s} very well. I think it is great, that the Mag* allowed it and that Dave did it, and maybe helped our situation {Passion} by speaking to the folks who might not understand or have not formed an opinion yet on “Hunting”.
Thanks Dave for getting the word out to a wider audience !

* might peruse it more often in the future — looks like they are willing to show diverse viewpoints.

I also thought the line familiar —-

The local folks might prefer to keep it a mystery like the “Marfa lights” — adds a little different ambiance to the area. I will be there in a couple weeks and investigate further, am curious now what the “real story” is- A personal friend, Mac White who honchos the Brite Ranch
[ famous for being raided by Mexican Revolutionaries – similar to the Columbus Raid] his family has been there for a long time.He should know – whether he will say is another matter.
I have Taken Hogs there as well, mostly in the drainages that go west off of Livermore Mtn. This year the drought was the worst in decades and a lot of oaks died [ and everthing else]
as you say the river courses were dry as a bone–and some of the major Springs-
