My wooden deer arrows for my brace of shrews 56lb@27

      are poc tap shaft [ fireflys] 630grs+- / 225gr Tuffheads / 18.42 foc

      scout

PS – when I bought my first shrew I asked {Ron} what arrow might work for me { i gave my Specs} and I was sent the above – which worked, maybe an anomaly, or something folks might try. I ask the Bowyer, and that has so far put my in the Ballpark.

sometimes I have to tweek em — and having test shafts in the arrows you basically like are the way to go–

Of course keeping core Warm – loose fit for circulation -wear a good wool hat AND Wool scarf —as already stated by other members.

I used Ragg Wool socks for yrs and they work well –

I switched to Merino Wool a few yrs ago and they are even better { more expensive} but last a long time.

Pac Boots [ like sorels etc] and/or the Military Mickey Mouse boots {best} but tough to work mtns in

            Dave –

I was never a big Goose Hunter, But the only ones I hunted much { because they were the only ones I liked to eat} or would hunt today are Canadas. But I did learn to cook them to my pers taste.

Thanksgiving is Turkey and for Christmas it is Goose — Traditionally—

You are ahead of me Dave, I have not shot one with a bow! –A future Challenge.

              Big Dave —

Off and on thru my childhood. Mostly just down the coast from you. San Diego, Oceanside, and San Clemente High [Tridents!] late 60’s–

Laguna was where all the free thinkers hung out – the “cool Cat’s”– haha

I have to say I really enjoyed living their then, as it “had It all”! Surfing/shooting/archery/hunting/fast cars/motorcycles/hangin in the desert/mtns etc et al— and California Girls –yeehaa [sorry couldn’t help it] of course you married one, you lucky dog–

Actually TJ could probably do a Trad Surfer mag and pull it off!! as that sport has suffered under similiar “problems” as Archery during my Life.

Robin– I will try again in the near future to post a pic – last time I didn’t get there — Dave is also smarter than I, as he has posted many and I am still working on my first one!?! Costa Rica -great fishing and still pretty rustic -without too much security concerns–

                Cowabunga Surfs up !

Posting pics is easy for you Robin — mostly, because you are smarter than most of us!! haha

Grew up in Socal Surfing – great sport – have to really be in shape to do it well — Looks like TJ is

Have fun! the tough part any more [ as with a lot of activities]is finding an uncrowded beach. which at least in this pic you did!

                  Dave-

Yes, you are right about zero status in Tex unfortunately – But there are a surprising number of lions that show up all over the Big Bend and along the Rio Grande /Canadian rivers anyway. They are also being seen more frequently along the river courses in the Plains specifically NE/SD.

                    R2

                    Great Pictures!

were they taken in the Panhandle?

old Felis concolor is showing up in a lot of interesting places – actually just reclaiming a lot of them, would be better wording.

                      Roger –

I am surprised also – usually there is a large group of members who very much prefer the Back Quiver!

I use Bow Quivers almost exclusively. The only Back Qs I have are from my early days and no longer manufactured. I have not used them in a long time, sorry.

Hopefully some other folks will chime in soon

I have “brace” of Coffey Shrew CHs,[one is a Take Down]that I am very fond of. Finest handling short bow I have used. I find them perfect for hunting in a confined environment [ or anywhere for that matter]

Looks Like I will be saving up for an “Elkheart” now, as I could not Be without Gregg’s latest creation! haha.

                          Southtexas –

If you are considering New Mexico for DIY elk hunt. I would recommend the Gila – especially if you do not have experience. The Gila [ leopold’s old stomping grounds – and I am sure he is rolling over in his grave at how it is changed]is big with a lot of public mountains[rough but not too high 10,000ft] and road systems [not good for the forest but good for new guys -easier to move around. The trick is finding where the herd is! then hunting.

Look for the Q/HD hunts {Quality/ High Demand]height of the rut most yrs. 15 area is Archery/ MZ only [taken some nice bulls there in the past 330 -365. 16b&22 Mostly wilderness but great!, 21A also. any of the 16 areas good.

NM is great for you [give out more Nonres tags than any other western state]not for me – havn’t drawn in some time now. Hunt the water sources far from the roads.

                            well done with the “Rocklock”

Most Trad and most difficult rifle to hunt with!

Huntryx – BHA x 4 – NM is just getting going [needs it bad} like anything just get some like minded folks together and start a chapter, as I am sure you know, they can be Bpackers/fisherpersons/ birdhunters etc, anybody who loves the outdoors without all the Racket and Habitat destruction!

                              Iyagoosha –

I grew up in the Military and hunted a number of Bases [Letterkenny Army Depot in PA for one – 1st deer and with a bow] can’t you bowhunt drum?

Interesting that it was Lions rather than a bear!? lions usually do there own killing [ although I know from my own experience they will eat left overs]. where a bear is more likely for a “pick up” meal.
