That’s really cool. I like trying honey from different places. As mentioned it can taste quite different depending on what the bees were visiting. I like desert honey a lot. We probably all should do this, as I understand the bee population is dwindling!

in reply to: Danger of Dragging #141888I like it, good for him. It is interesting how the”akio” even on regular ground makes dragging so much easier. I like the idea of the prius ( my mom had one but didnt drive it enuff to keep the batteries charged. I imagine they’re more reliable now. Wave of the future I am sure. Quieter too.

Yes on all your comments, trying to get myself back in shape also. Unless it is real close to the road ( or coues deer and antelope on my back [ downhill mostly haha ]when I was younger/ stronger/ and all my parts worked), I pretty much stopped dragging years ago – qtr and packing is pretty much what I do ( and having the ability to hoist the rest out of harms way — more trips easier traveling. However i was thinking about looking into some of these wheeled carriers ( man powered). Did use a cheap akio type sled once in the snow –a form of dragging , but less straining.

in reply to: Selway slide on bow quiver #141819Yes , as you know the channel islands had no indeginious large game – like Hawaii. So returning them to original takes away the hunting. Probably for the best, but not as much fun. Enjoyed the experience. I don’t know if it’s still in play- but awhile back there was a group trying to remove wild turkey from CA for the same reason.

in reply to: Selway slide on bow quiver #141811Ditto on good story
I lived on Hawaii, when I was 1yr old for a year, been thru it a couple times since. Never hunted it.
I did hunt on Santa Cruz island ( channel islands off CA) which were a known bowhunting destination in Southern CA in the olden times. A lot of fun – I stayed in “smugglers cove” and you could surf fish for sea bass also. I believe all the channel islands are a Natl Park now ( except for the Mil owned ones ( like San Clemente- which I have visited also – or parts ). The Govt eradicated all the game ( not indeginious) in the 90s I think. Santa Rosa had elk and deer ( from the Kaibab ). Santa Cruz had Sheep and Pigs similar to Hawaii.

How is it going in The Carolinas with the storm? I imagine mostly rain where you are? Wishing everybody back there the best —

Eagles flight bow quivers are my preference also, and the model pictured is the bees knees if you carry a 2 blade head ( tuffhead/ meathead in my case). Light, quiet and compact.

Ditto Richard and Ty.
Best bet is to find a trad Archery Shoppe or expo or shoot , and try different brands and types of archery tackle if you can, before making a final decision. With some shops you can trade back and forth trying different models. Some ” regular” archery shops have for sale and trade some trad bows, even if they are heavily compound oriented – the one here in ABQ is that way.
I believe – if you are going to hunt Moose in Maine- the hunting regs require a 45lb bow minimum. Might check current regs —-

in reply to: Selway slide on bow quiver #141580Hi Ty
Welcome to the forum and ditto webmoms comments. The problem really shows up using carbon arrows, as you might imagine as they are the thinnest shaft. I usually get the smaller size .
Yes on pushing the broadheads deeper. More protection less wobble — as you’ve discovered.

Richard
I do the same thing, if I am carrying a heavier bino while actively hunting —
I sometimes use the across the chest carry – set up lower – or tuck it inside a hunting shirt– to keep it out of the way while coming to full draw . Depends on size of binos off course.
