in reply to: What ya got goin? #14161
Backpacking wood stove for my tarp and this years hunts in the northeast tn southwest va deer seasons. No chimney yet.
in reply to: Where do you stand? #13208An interesting article. I will say that having come from an area filled to the brim with poachers and self-professed techno-gadget “rack hunters”, I can see how antis and non-hunters would lump us all together, ethics conscious or not.
I try not to be bleak in my outlook on hunting, but it’s hard not to when the majority of folks are killing for the love of “horn porn”. One thing I try to do as often as possible is profess how much I care about nature and natural processes, (hunting included) and distance myself from the (around here-East TN anyway) “in crowd” of hunting. When I do encounter them, I don’t talk about gadgets or any “stuff”, I ask about the hunts they’ve had and their time spent afield. You can tell a lot about someone from a conversation on time spent afield.
Hopefully more of those conversations are filled with squirrels, bobcats, moss on rocks, and experiences with nature and loved ones as opposed to the ever present phrase “I didn’t see a d**n thing”
My 2 cents.
in reply to: Splinter on recurve. Back it? #13192I superglued it once, but I must not have got enough in there. I’ll try that again and see how it works. It’s a pretty sweet shooting little bow.
in reply to: Splinter on recurve. Back it? #13149My fly tying bodkin is pointing to the splinter. It’s probably 1/4″ long.
in reply to: Limb tip protector #45459I use a 2″ piece of latex tubing like the kind found on a slingshot band. It’s quiet and best of all; cheap!
in reply to: Paint instead of wraps? #32068Thanks Archer! I’ll keep that in mind. I need to find the manual online too and have it handy. I inherited this jig from my dad when he stopped bow hunting as much. So there was no paperwork with the jig.
I also started bare shaft tuning yesterday. Took 3/4″ off and they look like they’re flying pretty good. It got dark on me though, so I’ll have to shoot them some more with fresh eyes.
in reply to: Paint instead of wraps? #30650Thanks for the tip Dave! I’ve always shot 3 fletch just because, but I enjoy the experimentation and tinkering part of traditional archery. I always have. I just epoxied my inserts and aluminum sleeves onto the business end of three cx heritage 250 shafts. Hopefully I won’t have to trim very much off the nock end to get them bare shaft tuned as I have around a 30″ draw.
in reply to: Paint instead of wraps? #30367I have a blitzenburger fletching jig. Would anyone happen to know what number to set it to for 4 fletch? Is it the smallest degree?
in reply to: Paint instead of wraps? #29869I had a roll of the tape a few years ago, and I don’t think I’ve ever fletched a dozen arrows faster. Maybe I’ll order some on the next 3 Rivers order I do.
in reply to: The Untamed #29447Pm sent Clay.
in reply to: easy DIY bowfishing rig #29303A buddy of mine doesn’t have a reel currently, but I’ll definitely pass this along to him! Awesome!
in reply to: Paint instead of wraps? #29203Well, I’ve already painted three cx heritage 250 shafts just past the black numbers with fl. chartreuse krylon. I am planning on using chart. 4x 2.5″ AA fletching with a turbulator, and my point stuff should arrive from 3 rivers tomorrow. Then off to bare shaft tuning.
IF I don’t get the number I’m looking for for FOC, then I’ll try to cut the nock down a bit. If that doesn’t work, I’ll get some new shafts and use the painted ones for goose arrows. (I’m hunting honkers with a bow this sept. for the first time)
in reply to: bowfishing question #12956I used to bowfish quite a bit when I lived on a shallow river, and I shot pretty much the same setup you talked about. I tied the string to the point and a couple of times my slack line would get caught and I’d have an arrow coming back my way. They never came point first though. Always cartwheeled back but they still didn’t feel good. I switched to a safety slide arrow and haven’t had that happen since.
in reply to: Side quivers with arrow grippers #64041No worries Bruce, it takes a WHOLE lot to make me take something the wrong way. You do have a point, I’ll usually wear mine loosely and take it off when I get to a spot to sit down. (I’m still searching for a good alternative though and I like the idea of a tube style side quiver or safari tuff style quiver)
in reply to: Side quivers with arrow grippers #63454That’s my only qualm with the cat quiver too. Its near impossible to sit comfortably with one strapped to your back, not to mention shoot with one on.
