in reply to: Home page article #41289
By “hunters who don’t see it this way” I meant non-ethical hunters, poachers, and canned killers. I apologize for not clarifying that and see how that was an overgeneralization to some extent. However, good point Steve, I hadn’t looked at it that way, as I’ve never read much TR, but have read some Leopold. Certainly peaked my interest on comparing Leopold and TR.
in reply to: Home page article #35591I agree. I read it yesterday on my lunch break. I’ve only skimmed it again, but mean to re-read it.
“This means that a person’s life is not contingent upon his or her usefulness to us. This is what it means to treat someone or something as more than a means to an end, and I believe hunters already do this with animals and hunting.”
That statement stood out to me though. I hope that the majority of hunters see it this way, unfortunately, the few who don’t stand out to the non-hunting public like a festering sore on the face of hunting. Just my 2 cents.
in reply to: T Downing's bull #20711Awesome story and beautiful bull! Now go find a mulie…
in reply to: Fletching Glue Quandry #61388It’s pretty stout stuff. My only qualm is the white residue it sometimes leaves when it’s humid. I guess it’s oxidation from the curing process, I’m not really sure. It wipes off easily though. I keep it around for fly tying as well.
in reply to: Fletching Glue Quandry #58613Cheap super glue gel from the local grocery store. 2 tubes for a $1. I haven’t had any trouble with it yet!??
in reply to: On The Wild Edge #50290Just ordered! Sure miss Dave’s writing and ethical insight! I hope he’s doing well
in reply to: Cut Scene from Ascent #41688Looks like some steep stuff! Reminds me of hunting in the Southern Appalachians! Can’t wait to catch the whole film, it’ll no doubt be awesome!

Just this once I am sorry that I have to make everyone abide by the same rules. I wish Ed the best on his book sales, but we don’t allow commercial posts in the forum. Who makes these rules anyway? 😉
Sorry for the confusion/mystery. Enjoy the book!
Oh gosh, Sorry! I wish I would’ve researched a little more and found it through his site!
Thanks for the heads up!

I googled it and found it on Amazon. I couldn’t find that Dr. Ed was selling it from a website, so I bought it on Amazon.
It’s a great read! Very informative and insightful; you can tell he definitely lives this stuff! I’m halfway through, and I’ve learned quite a bit about instinctive shooting, and ways to practice to make me a better shot.
I definitely recommend buying and reading this book!
in reply to: DR ED ASHBY NEW BOOK #16079It looks intriguing, so my copy will be here tomorrow! Thanks for the heads up!
Awesome! Congratulations! Glad to see the work you put in paid off. There are so many knowledgeable folks that contribute on this forum, just reading through the threads is the equivalent of a Master’s in Traditional Archery and Bowhunting.
in reply to: PA Elk Hunt #9434Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee all have had re-introductions in recent years. The Kentucky herd has grown to over 10,000 elk, and some have migrated over the mountains into Southwest Virginia. There is also a small herd in Buchanan, Wise, and Dickenson Counties in Southwest Virginia. http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/wildlife/elk/management-plan/
Personally, I hope to see wild elk in these mountains before I die. Only time will tell!
in reply to: Soft Mast Crop #46850Looks great in Southwest Virginia where we do some backpack hunting. Lots of Thornapple, apples, and acorns. Hopefully it’ll be a great season!
in reply to: Heading to the Mountains #7891Steve,
Nice pictures! I’ll be heading up that way in a couple of weeks hopefully to do some backpacking and brookie fishing in the wilderness area. One of my favorite places to hunt/hike/fish/photograph!
