in reply to: Recurve or longbow your choice and why? #36290
I own both but shoot my recurves more often.
in reply to: Is it right, wrong, or the lesser of two evils? #35090Philosophy 201: I feel that Duncan has expressed a very interesting concept. “Owning the responsibility” of the kill. When there are no perceived fences around the animal, is the concept of the previously mentioned “ownership” lessened? When we hunt an animal, in our typical way, the death outcome isn’t a certainty. When you pursue an animal within a pen it’s death can be a certainty. When you enter the pen the animal will die, when you enter the woods the animal may or may not die.
Ownership can be a #&$#@!
My 2cents: Take the chemical free pork with your bow or a knife and enjoy the responsibilty of the ownership. At the very least you are equal to a farmer slaughtering for his family.in reply to: Is it right, wrong, or the lesser of two evils? #34950Either way the animal is going to die. The details of the kill are often where the devil lives and plays his games with our minds.
in reply to: A visit to the Great Lakes Longbow Invitational #34827That’s great! Be careful, I’ve heard stories about gut shot Jacks going for your throat.
in reply to: Season start date… #34679September 15th for our urban zones here in IN.
in reply to: Got some work to do….. #33863I glad to see that I’m not the only one who has arrows that will hit all around the center dot!! Sometimes I just swear I put the dot in the wrong place.
in reply to: Surprise Tree stand dangers! #31575No bird attacks to date. I did have a squirrel get a little to aggressive in it’s “nut” collection efforts last season. I was shocked at the loud barking scream it let out when I twitched my hand after it approached within a foot of me. No addition to it’s nut collection from my location that night!
in reply to: Arrows Lost Per Year #30194I’m up to 5 as of yesterday!!
in reply to: Scent from walking through areas #28086My thoughts: For most 4 legged creatures, if a particular stimulis (sound, smell, even taste) is out of place and/or moving they will alert. Everything now becomes more difficult for the 2 legged creatures attempting to “touch” those now, alerted, four legged creatures. Immpossible to touch, no, but why make it harder?
in reply to: Elm Hall, MI Stick Bow Shoot #26109You 2 had too much fun!
in reply to: Surprise Tree stand dangers! #26103Spectra to the rescue! I revisited the stand this morning and soaked it very well. They dropped like…flies??!! I went and visited all of the other stand locations in this section just in case. The fumes and wasps should be gone by the 9/15 urban season opener, if not my screaming will screw up the hunt anyway. 🙂
in reply to: Any other Bear Archery enthusiasts here? #22740Count me as an AVID Bear bow shooter and collector. Statics, Polars, Grizzlies,Super Grizzly,Kodiak, Super Kodiaks, shoot them all. My 50′ Static shoots a little better as compared to my Super K (Florida build) for me. They all shoot well and often. Now, there are times when I get in their way!!
in reply to: :( I can't shoot my bow #22394Dan, I feel your pain, but in my left foot!! Tendon issues are typically slow to heal for various reasons. I was aggressive in my physicial therapy, 3 times a week for 3 weeks , 1 hour at a time. I work the tendon each day on my own. I was able to get back out in the woods within the first week. It will get better, but it may not return to normal (aging???).
I would shoot only one arrow a day, simulating a hunting shot. One shot, you better make it count.Sean
in reply to: Anxious Dreams #14995Branches…Oh I hate them branches!! My oldest enemy.
in reply to: Bear blade and weapons discussion… #14989That would be a perfect knife to hunt boar with. It would be better than my empty hand on a bear, but that’s a fight I really wouldn’t want to bet on.
