in reply to: Appropriate discussion? #59262
It appears to me that there are some Egos on this thread that have a “FOC” of 90% or greater!
Very useful information, thanks to all who contributed. This is a topic that will never be discussed on the Outdoor Channel.
in reply to: Just a reminder … #41821Ed, I Just reread the entire thread. I wanted to let you know I have now downloaded the detailed forms for my kill reports. Very scientific forms! I guess there is paperwork everywhere.
in reply to: Montana Long Bow #39312Hey, don’t go bad mouthin that Bear!! Just kidding and welcome to the fun. You have a great tool in that Bear and it will do it’s part. The hard part is your part. Good luck!
in reply to: Gotta get this "stuff" under control! #30377Another one of the joys of aging! I am in the same boat, I just wake up 1 hour earlier and take my time loading my gear, Jeep and wait…ta dah!! I always prefer home field advantage when dropping a duce and this seems to accomplish that goal.
in reply to: Who is your bowhunting hero and why? #25340My father. He’s the one who introduced to this wonderful lifestyle over 40 years ago.
in reply to: Okay Folks, my hunt begins… #18325I’m a average man, so I try to use the following principle:
KISS: Keep it Simple Stupid!#45-55lb bow Long or Recurve, your choice.
Have it set up by a traditional shooter/shop.
Shoot the correct arrows for your draw and bow weight.
I shoot 12 arrows each day. No more, no less.
Pick a spot on a spot when shooting. This is my constant challenge!!!
Simple, simple, simple. Have fun.
in reply to: Just a reminder … #17447Not giant but it was a great stalk!!
I’ll try to be specific for the Doc.
Bear Super Kodiak 55#
Gold Tip #5575 Traditional (Wood Grain pattern) 30″ draw length
Zwickey Black Diamond Two Edge 11/32 125grStill hunting, 15 yard, Quartering to me shot. Deer crouched at the release of the arrow. The Zwickey impacted just below the spine after piercing the outer ear.
The deer traveled no more than 50 yards.
The arrow remained within the deer. No visible damage to broadhead. A simple paper cutting test was only slightly reduced compared to unused arrow taken from my quiver.
in reply to: Predator Recipes #11944Eating a predator was one reason BBQ sauce was invented!! Slow, long cooking to a WELL done level and lots of BBQ sauce allows a person to eat just about anything. You might also search an Asian cooking/receipe database for some ideas. 😉

in reply to: Question of Traditional or Primitive Bowhunting #48787Why must there be an “absolute” within our pursuit?
in reply to: Feeling like a Dinosaur…… #48779I was thrilled to win a “dinosaur” catalog on eBay this week. A 1962 Herter’s catalog, the year of my birth ! I remember reading and reading all of my fathers old Herter’s catalogs when I was a kid. Not all tech detracts from our interests some can actually bring back a good memory.
in reply to: What is your best memory of a hunt #38886Bring on Part 2!
I have many memories from recent and long ago hunts with my father. A short funny one was the evening he hiked over to my stand to collect me for the walk out of the woods. I was using a cutting edge tree stand tool, the Baker Climbing Tree stand, as I began my decent using the instructed bear hug around the tree I lost my death grip on the tree at the same time the stand lost it’s bite on the tree. Well, like a scene out of a Keystone Cops movie I slid down hugging that tree and came to a sudden standing stop at the bottom. I just remember my dad saying, “No…I knew I didn’t like that thing”. Wow, that was over 30 years ago!
in reply to: Surprise Tree stand dangers! #38877Crap!!! The wasps are back! This weekend the stand is getting gased AND stripped bare.
in reply to: Nugent gets karma-lized! #38795Hey the weather is really nice here in Indiana!!! Shrimp’s on the BBQ. Have a great evening everyone.
This is an attempt to change direction…
in reply to: Nugent gets karma-lized! #38475Big Brother hates Ted. Always have and always will. They probably tripped over each other in their rush to enforce the laws of Kalifornia upon our blood brother Ted.
I repect him for taking the high road and pleading no contest. No court room drama and money wasted. Ted’s actions surely upset Kalifornia even more.
