Are you sure he isn’t related:D. Great rant. Thankfully we don’t do TV but the few times I watched those things in motels while traveling–lasted about 2 minutes.
Warrior wannabe’s in my estimation–let them join up where the prey shoots back.

in reply to: The search for a better bow #33714Like our beloved “web mom” my first bow was a 35# Pearson–killed my first two deer with it. Great bow, but being a young know it all I didn’t use a stringer and thus twisted the limbs.
Great bow

Yeah a–holes, 3 busted last night on local news today, 52yr old man, 24yr old guy, and 18 yr old girl all with .222 and spotlight. Makes you wonder about the mentor program in this county. Will follow the case and hope they get max fine–believe they have already lost guns and pickup:twisted:
Anyway this site and you all shine as a beacon of hope, just keep plugging along and don’t let the a–holes think they can get away with it. As you can imagine I’m not invited to the many “sportsmen clubs” around here:D

Many years ago spent a fair bit of time around the Pax river area while instructing at the Naval Academy. As I remember many deer and lots of hunting pressure.
I would advise that you take Sean up on his offer he knows of what he speaks. And don’t forget your own research “Whitetail Tracks” by Geist is a good start.
Knowledge of your prey and terrain, coupled with patience and a lot of work–will eventually pay off–we all hope, every season:D. And don’t forget to enjoy every day afield.

in reply to: Lamentations #33680Three days ago while sneaking down the gravel road ready to cross hard surface before the woods there at the corner in the weeds was the body of a very beautiful doe—back straps and one ham taken the rest left–hide peeled back, marked by a red rag used to wipe the hands. Rage and cry at the same time. This was murder not hunting–likely spot lighted. DNR said thanks for the report. Sean–I know what you are saying–not sure the solution or if there is one. Sad commentary on our species:evil:

in reply to: a video of a "outside of the box" hunt #31429jasonsamko wrote: This video i made to show how i deal with the massive amounts of gun hunter pressure here in michigan.
It shows my “outside the box” thinking with my funnel choice for this hunt. It also has a couple twists and different kind of ending.
I originally intended for it to be a quick video aobut the funnel and dealing with pressure but then just let you guys follow along for the remainer of the hunt and how it unfolded.
Jason–as the doc said your video’s are very good. Just for your info your “funnels” in my previous life were called avenues of approach but the concept is the same–The terrain is a sheet of music and we all move on it to create the notes–ya just have to be able to read it.
Don’t be to hard on the coyotes “god’s dog”, after all they were doing the same thing you were doing only difference is they had to eat to survive–you can go to the store:D And they have been doing it long before we came
and are a sign of healthy eco system.
Semper Fi and good luck on the buck.

It’s been some years (hope to change that soon) but as I remember trim some of the fat–leave some of the flank–no marinade as we liked the greasy taste of the wild meat over the coals—most important–do not over cook–rare is best–a little olive oil never hurts—enjoy.:D Eat with your hands and a sharp knife–if it’s snowing all the better, huddle close to the fire.

in reply to: Heartsblood #27063I also have Heartsblood and it, too, is a powerful book.
I am making a point of reading everything Dave has/will written/write! He has a amazing gift![/quote
Be careful–if you look at all Dave P’s notes and such you will discover the likes of Shepard and Geist and your libraries will grow as your pocket book diminishes:D
But you will enjoy all.

I Don’t read every paper–just most of them and if you set up your search engine properly those articles come to you with no effort:D.
Great comments but like enhanced interrogation techniques, we and our society have to live with the results.
Where is the story of the weary hunter who tracked this creature for hours and days?
No judgement–we live with our life choices. Would love to get the shooter in my—– Sorry mom–I will stop:twisted:

in reply to: How many times per week do you hunt? #17094Same as Bill said. However we are leaping through hoops to get Linda ready to head out to Canada for a dry land (wheeled) dog sled race this weekend. She will be running a 4 dog team. Any of you close to Essex Ontario–stop by and cheer her on.
