in reply to: Can I shoot this? #54133
I look it over for blemishes as I’m sure you already have and I say go for it. I remodel houses for a living and I was working at a gentlemans house and we got talking about shooting recurves and he took me out to his drafty tool shed and he got out his 73 model Bear Super Kodiak. It had been hanging in that shed in hot and cold weather for years and years. I had to actually clean the dirt daubers (spell check) nest off the limbs. I quickly asked the man what he would take for it and we agreed on a price and I didn’t even hand it back to the man. I got it home cleaned it up strung it and it looked good and drew fine and it shot even better. Super quite and a hard shooter. Well worth the 50 bucks I gave for it.
in reply to: Worm Holes #61230Thats what I didn’t do. I didn’t get the bark off of it. I qaartered it up and brought it indoors but I didn’t strip the bark off of it. CRAP!!! oh well lesson learned. Thanks for saving me a lot of time Duncan I appreciate it
in reply to: Need a new hunting recurve any suggestions? #53813I’m with Duncan. I also shoot a Predator take down and I love it. They make a great shooting, fast bow.
in reply to: broadheads #48313I was just looking on 3 Rivers and does anybody know anything about the Zwickey No Mercy Single Bevel? They are pretty cheep and as far as I know Zwickey makes a pretty good product
in reply to: Predator bows.. #22755Hey I shoot a Predator Custom and LOVE IT. I shoot 54# @ 28″ and it shoot pretty fast. I traded my first bow, a bear grizzly with a some to boot at the Ky klassic, Was dissappointed in the the first time I shot it cause the doesn’t have much of a shelf and the right wing feather laid the top of my hand wide open. So my first shot with my new bow drew blood. My heart sank not to mension my hand hurt like crap. lol the brace height was way too low so it was loud and had a lot of hand shock but with a quick twist of the string fixed the problem and then got my grip situated and went to left wing and haven’t had a problem since and that was about a year and a half ago. I know this description doesn’t sound too good but I promise I love mine
in reply to: Hickory or Osage #18348hahaha on the land mines. I kind of figured that would be the case. Just presonal preferance as with most things traditional. I like that its usually personal preferance, means that everybody can like and do what they want to with their equipment and not what the media or advertising forces them to buy. thanks for the info
in reply to: Home made string silencers? #11528I used my dogs hair. I have or had (some POS stole him and God help the person if I ever find out who it was)a Siberian Husky and twice a year he would blow his hair out in huge clumps. I took the puffs and put it between my hands and rubbed it back and forth to make yard strands. It was like wool. I just put the strands in the string the same as the yarn puffs everyone here has talked about. They work pretty good but I’m sure no better than any other. I just liked the idea of a part of my dog getting to still go with me to the woods even though I don’t have him any more.
in reply to: fresh hickory #25825a year!!! oh goodness I can’t wait that long. hahaha. I don’t need one at the moment. I got a hickoy blank at the TN Classic and shaped it out and ended up with a 60 lbs and 28 inches bow that I love and it got me waning to make more and more. But thanks for the information. I’ll put them up and see how long I can wait before I give in to the itch. haha
in reply to: fresh hickory #24716yeah Ive heard about a month or so too. also does it warp?? do you have to lay things on it or strap it down so it keeps its shape? I know some wood will go nuts and warp all over the place when it dries. Sorry if some of these questions seem dumb or simple, this is just my first with drying the wood myself. thanks for the info
in reply to: Traditonal Archery Store?? #55091Well I made it back with no broke bones or injuries. I never got around to sking but snowboarding is some of the most fun I’ve ever had in my life. If any of you have never been to CO I suggest you plan a trip. Its amazing how beautiful it is. I live in Tennessee and I thought the Smokies here were mountains…not after going there..lolol..I did leave for the airport early but it was to try and beat the ten inches of snow that was coming..Didn’t beat it but didn’t get snowed in either..
in reply to: Traditonal Archery Store?? #32836Thanks for the info. I’m gonna try my best to get there. I fly into Denver but have prearranged transportation from there so I don’t know if I’ll be able to stop or not. But thanks again for the store… and thanks for the warning about the trees Dave..haha I really hope I don’t find any of them.
in reply to: Let's build a selfbow #15113I’ve only been once in my life. Last year was my first trip up there of the Tennessee Classic. I liked it a lot and plan to go back this year. Well it looks like you do a good job on your bows. I appreciate the handy work
in reply to: SNOW SNOW SNOW #15111Heck yeah I’m sick of the snow. I live in Tn and we normally dont get a lot of snow during the winter but this year has been different for sure. The funny thing that goes along with us not getting much snow. is I made vacation plans back before winter to go do Colorado TO GO PLAY IN THE SNOW!!!!! I leave on the 19th of this month. hahahaha gotta love irony
in reply to: Help with fletcher! #15101I’ve got the Jo Jan and its pretty good. Its a little finicky to get adjusted at first but once you figure it out I like it. I’ve got the right wing and it puts a good twist on the feather
