in reply to: Buying a Demo Bow Newbie Question #24128
Ive owned a copule martin hunters over the years and they are very nice shooting reliable bows as are all the martins ive owned and there have been several. in my epxperince the martin line are really good bows.
ive now owned about 50+ longbows and recurves and cant say a bad word about any Martin product i owned.
in reply to: How many bows do you have? #16196Well ive gott he herd pretty much thiinned out on that one im down to two recurves one Jeffery take down and one Kota the on the long bow side i currently own two tim Meigs longbows two Del Allen longbows one Sky trophy longbow a Kots longbow
a Dwight rudder and my pride and joy a John Schulz natural.
Im down from about 30 total bows to this motley little crrew.
in reply to: Correct brace hight for longbows #61679I own the same bow same draw weight 3″ shorter than the bows length is right! Ive owned mine since they first came out it still shoots great.
in reply to: Aluminum Arrows #52622I shoot aluminum out of my recurves every so often but for longbows our Caalif sanctioning club TAC requires we shoot wood or shoot in the recurve class. So i usually shoot cedar out of both my longbows and recurves. Although my longobws all shoot aluminum pretty well and they are now less expensive than building good cedar shafts.
in reply to: woodbows.com reviews #47014I also own a Rudder bow mine is Bamboo and hickory it was really inexpensive compared to some of my other bows and shoots excellent its 60#@28″
its a fine bow shoots very well and has very close arrow speed and cast to most of my laminiated fiber glass longbows of the same poundage. The Rudder bows at least mine has an arrow shelf rather than shooting off the knuckle. You might give that some thought having a shelf might make it a little easier for a new archer. I being a picky old dude have developed a fondness for Bamboo longbows they seem to produce less handshock than other materials in my experience. I currently own seven longobws six are bamboo and have owned about 35 longobws over the years. you shold really see if you can try some different bows prior to making a purchase just to see what feels right to you.
in reply to: 3 arrow groups on the same target #14826If you need to determine if certain arrows are shooting out of your intended spot try marking each arrow with a number on the knock or somewhere you can easily see it and then shoot if the same arrows arent flying to your intended target it could be minsmatched spine. there can be quite a disparity of spine weight in a dozen shafts even though they are sold at a certain weight. you could also watch the grain in the shaft alignment to the Cock feather this can have an impact on accuracy also.
in reply to: My new Java Man Duo Flex #55162Very nice bow. im a big fan of the recurves with a tiny riser
they shoot so much like a longbow its a real easy transition between bow types.
in reply to: Black Widow PSA recurve #23421I have a Graybark widow its a really sweet shooting bow very forgiving but its heavy! I usualy shoot hill stylew Longbows or my Kota Recurve which are very light bows thats my only complaint it interferes with me swapping between bows.
I have two sets of limbs 55# and 67 # and it shoots very sweet with either set. It shoots light aluminum or heavy wood arrows equally well and its a very quiet bow.
in reply to: Shooting the Hill #8359WEll Hill style bows are my favoites ive been using a loose grip for some time and it works well once you get used to it you realize you dont need a death grip on the bow along with turing the fore arm over a little.
in reply to: Quiver identification #51538Its been a great Quiver and used heavily for years and years but the strap is finally starting to crack and get brittle probably some where along ihe line i abused the poor thing.
i suspect my next oenwill defintlly out last me and go to my nephew along with the rest of my archery equipment when i pass on.
in reply to: Found treasure #47040Beautiful bow nice work. I ha done of those I sold some years ago i wish i had kept great shooting bows.
in reply to: Will and his new recurve (thanks Troy and Ben) #47039That is so cool! its great to see another generation of traditional archery enthusiasts join the sport! he looks like hes hooked on the sport already.
in reply to: I just can't cut it #47027Try canting the bow more! I shoot the same cedar arrows out of a lot of my bows recurves and longbows all of this group are in the 60# range and i do favor the hill style longbow of which i have six. I find that with my primitive style all wood bow if i cant the bow more it shoots the same arrow i use in my glass backed long bow fine. i know its wrong and i should build some arrows specifically for the bow but ive got loads of them so i learned to compensate.
Also be sure you are consistant in your grip placment hill style bows seem to be intolerant of even small variances in hand position on the grip.
in reply to: Quiver identification #45042well sorry about this post after hours and hours of searching for quivers on the net i found my exact quiver at Cabellas? who would have thought its listed as a camo quiver? its all tan leather no camo but its an exact copy of my trusty old quiver sorry about the erronious post here.
in reply to: Upgrades to the new longbow and arrows #43596Very nice work i really like that grip. ive never card for the suede grips many bowyers use they seem to get ugly with use when i have a bow made i usually ship the bowyer some black smooth leather.I really like the Fletching beautiful job cutting them out.
