A couple good coats of wax over the summer also helps preserve the finish.

For an all wood natural bow to keep it looking natural I would use tung oil or either tru-oil. Put on a latex glove and pour it into your hand and rub away. It will eventually soak in and seal it. Tru-oil will give it that gun stock looking finish. Then you can just barnish it lightly with a green scrubby pad to knock off the glossiness.

            Hope this helps you out.

Yep that’s why I’m gonna build me another one. If not I can just pull one off the rack. I will have me one around 51 pounds or so.

Thanks all. Troy that bow started out as putting scraps together. It turned out ok. Nothing fancy like your spliced lam work.

Now that’s the Troy bows I’ve known and seen in the past. That’s another beauty bud. I’m with ya on the stippling.

in reply to: How to repair bow? #39961

I reskinned a couple bows for people. It wasn’t that hard to do. I used a razor knife to scrape off the old skins. Then I lightly sanded with 220 grit and re-sprayed with thunderbird.

Another bow I did the same way with the taking off and sanding with 220 grit. Then I took a piece of 100 grit and marred the glass a bit and applied some timber rattlers too with TB III. Let it dry a couple days and setup then I descaled the skins. Hand rubbed Tru-oil finish.

Not sure what all tools you have or your spray finish capabilities are. if you willing to take the project on yourself as a start measures your tiller as a reference and when sanding the limbs only sand the finish/glue off. Try your best not to get into the glass. Also check with Samick to see what finish they use and use the same finish. If not theres a good chance that the two different finishes will react and bubble up and peel.

Feel free to message or call me I can help you along or point you in the right direction.

USPS is what I use. the big brown people are too expensive and I have had some problems with them as well. Hopefully they will reconsider your claim.

I stay in shape with Olympic weightlifting. I’ll be 41 in a month and still compete Both my older kids lift. We all enjoy it.

Closer to season I do crossfit.

I like to name mine sometimes. “Ol Trusty” is my favorite bow.

Whitetails no I’m not a good stalker. I have tried a few times to stalk them at the ranch in nebraska. We only see a handful every year. Our place there in Nebraska is mainly mule deer and angus.

As a kid growing up in the northern part of the golden triangle of Texas we would stalk them some every now and again we’d get in a dry creek bottom (its always dry) and ease along and peek over the top and see some does and smaller buck but was never able to connect.
