in reply to: Cool Trad turkey video #8503
i cant make it play – after all the positive feedback now i really want to see it!
in reply to: xx75 "singing" #61111i agree with pothunter – loktite on threaded connections and also there was an article in tbm on quieting aluminum arrows a while back where the author stuffed his arrows with foam – i think he used foam packing from old computer boxes – i dont remember the issue but it was very informative and detailed – if i can find it i’ll let you know – i was thinking of trying it myself
in reply to: Manchester solo bow #57472sorry andy, never heard of your bow – is it a longbow?
in reply to: in need of council #57167hey ariel – fly in 5 days you say? allright! dont know where your flying to, but if you do wind up in wash. st. email or call – my wife and i would love to meet you – carl and veta 509-965-6264
in reply to: in need of council #56128hello ariel! welcome! i love to hear from and talk to people from other counties. i would love to go to isreal someday – what history! i live in a town called yakima in wa. state and if you ever come here i would love to hunt with you. we have some decent hunting here for deer, elk, bear, cougar, turkey, mountain goats, and bighorn sheep but some other states are better i think – idaho, montana, colorado to name a few. there are many places to buy archery gear in the states, some spendy some not depending on what your after. as for making bows i have no experience but did buy the supplies to build a longbow press and will start that project in the near future. good luck in your endeavers – you might want to subscribe to traditional bowhunter magazine – lots of info on archery suppliers and interesting articles – shoot straight and have fun!
in reply to: Short Longbows? #56110i recently bought a cooks mountain longbow, 53#@ my 27″ draw and love this bow! i wanted a 58″ but roy suggested a 60″ for my draw length so i assume 58″ would be fine for your 26″ draw. i suggest you give roy a call – very nice guy, knows his stuff, and makes excellent bows, affordable too. good luck! phone # 208-836-5502, doesn’t have a website yet but i think he’s workin on one
i will be hunting elk this year with a 53#@27 longbow and want my arrows to be in the 530+ gr. range. with a sharp 2 blade head i have absolute confidence in this setup. the last elk i killed [too many years ago] was with a 54# bill stewart recurve, cedar arrows, and zephyr 2 blade head – but i also limit my shots to 30ds or less, preferably 5-10yds ! carl
in reply to: Have you ever considered a longbow ?? #47152i have been shooting recurves only since switching from compounds 15-20 years ago – and some nice ones – bill stewart, howatt, wing, widow, bear, and still own and love them all – but i recently bought my first longbow and i cant put it down! beautiful, light, and i can flat out drive tacks with it! i am quickly getting very fond of this bow – my advice would be to get a longbow that fits your draw and weight and give it a try – you just might find yourself a new best friend!
in reply to: You Favorite Broadhead and why ? #47115i have used the zephyr scirocco in the past and have no complaints – but i am now considering a single bezel head, maybe the grizzly or the new zwickey – on that subject, i saw an ad in tbm for a eclipse single bezel but have not been able to find it anywhere – has anyone found it or used it? carl
in reply to: One piece or Takedown whats your favorite? #44681i own a couple takedowns and several one piece bows – takedowns are nice because you can have several different weight limbs for one handle and also easier to travel with – but the one piece bow, recurve or longbow, is by far my favorite – i just love the feel and look of the one piece – carl
