in reply to: Elk Arrow Spine Suggestions #25453
I believe I will need a stiffer arrow. I was just wondering about how much, say to the 400 or the 340’s.
in reply to: Looking For a Longbow #23356I received my first GN Bushbow last week and absolutely love it. I like Shrews too, but I think the wait is over a year now. GN says 8 weeks for them but I had mine in less than 4 weeks.
in reply to: Gearing Up For Heavy Bows #23286I asked for the Bowfit exercise bands and dvd for Christmas. My goal is to increase my bow pulling strength as well endurance for my trip out west next year. If you’re interested in a different type of weight training, do a search for Kettlebells. They are more of a European weight training system but have become very popular here in the US. You don’t need much room and there are many exercises and or movements you can do to improve strength.
in reply to: A REMINDER OF WHY WE HUNT TRADITIONALLY #11158Sadly many of todays’s “New” hunters, lack the dedication to become proficient bowhunters. The go to Cabelas (no offense intended) one night and leave “hunt ready” for tomorrow morning, is wrong. You simply cannot be a shining example of what is good about hunting. Also, I’m pretty sure Fred Bear and Glenn St.Charles didn’t say “Smoked um” when they arrowed an animal.
in reply to: Meat in the Freezer #11146I enjoy the butchering almost as much as te hunt. It is not a chore but a labor of love. I know where my meat came from and have some insight into the life it lived.
in reply to: Boots for CO Elk Season #61827Any all leather proponents?
in reply to: Is it possible ? #58359I believe there is a market for such a service, at least for some of the Trad guys here. I agree with Dave Peterson that you should make sure you’re not violating any laws. I also agree that you will not please everyone. Even though some THINK that’s what they want, reality has a way of changing peoples perspective. Sounds good to me though.
in reply to: Who's Hunting the Late Season? #57412The two week rifle seasons starts this Monday in Pennsylvania. It will be the first openning day I will have missed in thirt years due to work. Having said that, I am looking forward to our late season that starts the day after Christmas. Hunting with the longbow has definately made my hunting experiences fun again.
in reply to: A REMINDER OF WHY WE HUNT TRADITIONALLY #57406As a life long Pennsylvanian, it seems to me that “Get your buck no matter what”, is a way of life. Even more so now that cross guns have invaded OUR archery season. I’m afraid that your story was probably repeated more than once this year here in PA. It’s today’s “Culture of Easy” that is to blame in my opinion. The cross gun is just the means to that end.
in reply to: Jessy Filled His Tag! #57396Congratulations Brothers. Good to see fellow firefighters enjoying the stick and string as well as being successfull!!
in reply to: What are you reading in Elk camp? #49767Rereading “Man Made of Elk”. I too have read Mr. Peterson’s other books as well. Starting to get psyched for my first walk in elk hunt in Colorado next September with my newly ordered GN Bushbow.
in reply to: Nugent gets karma-lized! #49153I agree with Mr. Thomas in that Ted Nugent was already a celebrity for something else (which I liked). I would much rather be in a fraternity that has 20 quality members, than 100 horses asses to represent my hunting heritage. I don not believe in the more we have to fight is better for hunting. Here in PA, it is that logic (and greed)that has let in cross-guns into OUR archery season. I din’t ask for Ted or the NRA to represent me.
