in reply to: Amazing: My son's new Java Man Archery Helms Deep #63749
That is a sweet bow!
in reply to: First Successful HBO bow build! #63649I am a laminated glass bow guy – but I have always wanted to hand tiller a piece of Osage. This was my third attempt the first two were with Bamboo backing and both lifted a splinter. Also the first two attempts were with Hickory and Bamboo backing. This time I went with Osage and I love working with Osage wish I would have started off with that.
I still want to get a Bamboo backed Osage accomplished at some point – but for now I will just enjoy this success for a bit.
Grumpy – after the first two I am forever listening for a creaking each time I draw back.
in reply to: Something to get your blood pumping.. #57207Well done Clay!
in reply to: New Elkheart #44989Beautiful bow Mike! And it looks to be a take-down as well. Enjoy!
in reply to: CALIFORNIA DREAMING #42733Congratulations! That is awesome! I am a fellow Californian and I got skunked this season.
in reply to: Totally Traditional #35256Sell it and you can buy another beautiful longbow!
in reply to: November Rovin' #33289Love it Smithhammer…That captures the heart and feel of the trad walk in the woods.
in reply to: Trad Look? #30555I recently began to wear a bit more of the trad wear in the woods. I really like that I can walk in the woods or make a stop in the local market and not stand out as a typical hunter. Some do not even view me as a hunter just a woodsman. I kind of like that.
in reply to: Southwest DIY Javelina Hunts? #30547I am jealous of your trip – I hope you guys get some great action. And I would love to join the 2016 group. Especially knowing that you have gone before us and have paved the way to success!:D
in reply to: New Arrows #30489Those are some nice arrows.
in reply to: Bow Building #30485cpbiv…i started building bows about 7 or 8 years ago. I started by purchasing the full bow set up from Bingham. For a small investment you can get all the plans, hardware for the form and plans for the hotbox, glue, string, nock overlays material etc. you will also get a very well done video that walks through the hole process of building the laminated bow. The full instruction guide follows the video very closely.
I use 3 core lams, 2 veneers and 2 pieces of clear glass. Bingham’s kit will provide 4 lams and 2 pieces of glass. Along with a riser block.
Building bows is very rewarding…enjoy
in reply to: What a year it's been! #28023Nice shot – love to see a plan come together. I have been looking at the hammock seat and I just might pick one up. What was your blind set up like?
in reply to: 2014 Hunting #21823I have been spending my time in a new zone with a little less pressure. My Archery Only season is ending this week. Then we shut down until the 20th when the fun begins again. I was up getting a birds eye view of things before heading down into the thick. I have a deer tag and bear tag. I saw 4 does and managed to get to within 15 yards of two of them – but we can’t mess with the does only bucks. I also got within 75 yards of a nice big black bear.
Using my 3 piece takedown Cocobolo bow I crafted a couple months ago.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #19879Colmike – The hammock is awesome for day use. I spent 8 nights last year and discovered that for night time sleeping comfort I am a ground guy. But the hammock is great for daytime relaxing and I use as a chair as well.
