We do our own butchering as well. It is done in the garage on a weekend or evening. I usually do most of the cutting and my sweetheart does the final trimming, determines how much is going into each package and the actual wrapping. We are also fortunate enough to have a 6 year old granddaughter that is quite interested in “helping”. This past weekend we butchered a pig with friends. It was not one of those factory pigs, but a “real pig from a real farm”. The intent is to make sausage with trim from both the pig and our deer.
The sausage making is a hobby about the same as arrow making!
Lots of fun.
The deer we shot were not archery deer so they will not taste quite as good:wink:
Brucein reply to: Who's Hunting the Late Season? #64146In Manitoba our late season which is a firearm season ran from November 14 til this coming Sunday. You can use firearms or bows but have to dress in the blaze orange apparel and follow the rules set for this season. Warm days I took my recurve, cold days my rifle. I had one shot with the bow and missed an 18 yd. shot from a treestand. Shot high ! I think this year I hunted the most I ever have. I’m almost glad it’s over and ready to get out the ice fishing gear:wink:
Good Luck to everyone still hunting !
Brucein reply to: My newest set of woods #59963Look Good !! Like the crest in the middle.
I’m assuming that you are contemplating buying a bow from Abe Penner at Cari-bow .
I purchased a recurve bow from him two year ago and am very pleased with it. My bow is fairly plain looking but shoots very good. His bows are available with lots of options, that can make a very beautiful bow. I think his workmanship is excellent and would highly recommend him ❗

Great shooting !!
And two AWESOME DEER !!
Congratulations Bruce.in reply to: Opinons on Misses While Hunting #34523Dave Petersons suggestion, that, where we get a fear that we have to rush because the animal is going to ” magically” disappear pretty much sums it up for me !!
I saw on another thread where someone said I was “screaming at myself to pick a spot” I think that might be a useful tool at “Crunch Time”
Brucein reply to: St Charles Style quiver #33859I enjoyed the build -along Duncan. good idea to have a separate quiver for different types of hunting. Your bow is so well camoed that if you set it down in the leaves, it might be hard to find !!
Brucein reply to: Bear kills deer #30883Congrats !!! Nice deer !!

in reply to: Mechanical Broadheads #20033I wasn’t suggesting that people should use mechanical broadheads. I was suggesting that for anyone that has trouble sharpening to go to a three bladed head that used disposable blades.
Muzzy ,Thunderhead, Savora, Satellite used to be some of the heads of this type.
I looked in an Archery store on Saturday and they seem to be non-existant. I still maintain that this type of head is more lethal than a semi-sharp cut on contact type of blade.
These disposable blades were what I consider the benchmark of being sharp. I wonder how many of us when sharpening a two blade head, are achieving this level of sharpness ?
I guess it doesn’t help a lot when they are not available
Didn’t realize I was so far behind the times !!
Brucein reply to: Trad bow in National Parks #18343You did well on the interview Peter !!
