Jans,
Great bow and setup. Quiver looks really nice on the bow as well. Hope your Dad gets to experience the FOC improvement first hand. Great job!

The arrows are great and working well. He loves to shoot any chance he gets. Thanks again to you and Troy for taking the time to add great experience to his life.

I have used carbon express and 3 rivers trad only by Easton. The trad only are the ones I use now. They are of high quality and made in the US. I cut them with a dremel tool and use wraps and 4 feathers. Before I fletch I use goof off and remove the logo from the shaft so it just looks like wood. I use 50 grain brass inserts hot glued in as well. They sell them in test kits so finding the right shaft can be a little more cost effective.
Good luck,

Sounds like a plan to me. :D.

I have seen you wearing kuiu gear in your pics. Do you have the chugach jacket by chance? And if so what are your thoughts on it.
Thanks

That is a really great looking bow. I am going to have to shoot one at ETAR this year. Think I can pull the old recurve for a TC on the wife? Probably not! But might have to try. Thanks for sharing and a shooting video would be handy just to see if she performs as well as she looks. 😀

Jim,
I use 500s as well. I have went threw all the shaft options and they simply fly and impact the best for me. They are cut to 28.5 inches with 300 grains up front. Weak? Yes but remember the way you shoot effects it all as well.
Good luck!

Great pics and stop with the bow shots…The Humphrey knife pissed off the wife enough. Can’t imagine what would happen if a thunderchild made it home. I still don’t think I am out of the woods yet on the Elkheart and it has been over a year!
I would love to sit at that place in your picture just for a hour and take in that scene. But I would probably linger for days!
in reply to: Short recurves…suggestions? #57978Jim,
Congrats! Some pics would be great when she arrives. Unless it is the same beauty you showed off earlier. But even so show it off again.:D

in reply to: Quality Deer Management #55331Here in PA I think some management is needed. For both deer and people. Not to grow monster bucks but to ensure healthy forest, deer, and people issues.
When I started deer hunting bucks were hunted for 2 weeks with a rifle. Does where hunted after the two week season for three days. And before that does where protected. This method caused 80 percent of bucks to be killed every year.
The antler restrictions in PA allow for young bucks to become adults which brings the herd into a proper balance of age structure.
In the early 2000s the 3 day doe season ended. Does and bucks where now hunted during the 2 week rifle season. This helped to reduce the overall deer population as a whole and also balance the buck to doe ratio and help reduce over browsing of the forest.
Now doe season in most of PA is during the second week of the rifle seasons.
Perfect. No, but it is doing more for the deer and forest in PA. And continual study and changes are made to help the herd as needed.
Senior and juniors do not have to abide by the antler restrictions and they also get a doe only 3 day rifle season in October.
There is a week long doe only inline muzzle loader season in October and cross guns are used during archery.
There is also a late season archery and flintlock season after Christmas.
And don’t forget the year long season of car hunting. But it is very expensive and insurance companies hate that method.
I don’t agree with all PA does with the deer herd and hunting seasons but at least they are using biologist and watching other states for what works instead of doing nothing.
Here us one resource on PA antler restrictions. They also posted there management plans.
in reply to: Camera Vs Phone #52970I am with Jim and SH. A great tool. It provides me with a wealth of on the spot intel on work subjects whenever I need it. I also really like the photo aspect for the outdoors.
But I too would like to see an arrow through it!:D
in reply to: The Trad Knife Thread #52466Smithhammer,
Well after looking at the whitetail and debating on the brute de forge I went with the Muley. I will post more pics when I get it back from a friend who is making me a pouch sheath for it. I agree that Lon Humphrey makes a great knife and I can’t wait to abuse it a little.
