Yep Etter’s black tape innovation is excellent. I’ve used it to good effect as well.
in reply to: 2013 hunting rigs #15406Cheers mhay, it is. I have worked quite a bit on form using light limbs on the Sage this year and I just feel reasonably confident with it shooting where I point. It’s totally budget too, that whole rig (minus the arrows) is probably under 200 bucks. Including the arrows and broadheads it’d be under 300 I reckon.
in reply to: Practicing the "Cold Shot" #14806in reply to: 2013 hunting rigs #14632I love seeing all the beautiful craftsmanship in these awesome rigs. Beautiful bows, arrows, quivers etc. Alas I am having a crisis of confidence in my long bow talents and am going back to my old faithful (of the past year) the mighty Samick Sage. This is 60# @ 28″ with just under 600 grain MFX Classics. They’ll be tipped with my old faithful (of the last decade) Outback Supremes.
in reply to: Binoc recommendation #13520Mike, Eagle Optics make a 6.5×32 for under 200 bucks that gets pretty favourably reviewed. Kingbird or kingfisher is the model name. I doubt they’d stack up to the big names, but for something you’re willing to bang around a bit they may be worth a look.

in reply to: Practicing the "Cold Shot" #13514I just went out and cold shot my recurve at 9 yards, so don’t be mislead, you’d be at least doubling the distance of those misses at 20 yards 😉 The ‘target’ is the knot in the string below the left most shaft.
A couple of days ago I did this for my cold shot with the long bow..
If only pigs had a nice vertical line right behind their shoulder to help me aim…
in reply to: wool or camo? #13416I don’t get to wear wool, it’s way too hot, even in winter and I wear cam all day at work so like to get out of it at home. It’s lose/lose for me 😉

The US military digicam is easily one of the worst performing cam patterns I have ever seen, how it got selected is beyond me (Australia’s old Desert Pattern Disruptive Uniform or DPDU is on par in the field of ineffective excellence). Multicam however is the ducks nuts and performs well across a wide variety of terrain.

That is really something.
in reply to: Which bow for a starter? #12618If the interest is a recurve then a Samick Sage is a great little bow. The difference in initial lay out means they can afford to get a couple sets of limbs so they can work on form with light limbs then have progress in weight. If they find a passion for it then they can lay out for a beautiful american made bow in a weight that will suit them long term. And the Sage can be turned into a full time fishing bow or a convenient back up bow 😀
You hear the phrase ‘beginner bow’ get thrown around, which I am not a fan of. I reckon there are ‘cheap bows’ and ‘beginner archers’ and the two are natural allies 😉

in reply to: Practice…. #12057I have been caught doing the same thing 😀 Those packs are great. They’re also excellent for getting some pack time on your feet while you’re ostensibly doing domestic duties (looking after your kids).
My only complaint is that when I do something he likes, my boy is in a prime position to pat me on the head and say “good boy daddy” like I’m a dog. As if carrying him around like a prince was not demeaning enough 😉

I should retract that. I did some asking around and fella’s that run deer hunts up here use them. It turns out my ignorance is just deeper than I expected 😉
Cheers for your replies guys 😀
