in reply to: Different strings-impact on tuned arrows #11568
Steve does that work by changing the speed of the string as the silencers are moved around or is more complicated than that?
Like Dave said, another tool for the toolbox, thanks 😀
in reply to: What ya got goin? #10221I’ve been shooting my longbow almost exclusively this year, pouring lots of practice and time into it. This morning I decided to check the brace on my recurve, and once I’d done that I thought I may as well shoot a couple of arrows.
I would be lying if I said this was my first 10 yard group in months. It was my second such group and reminded me why I’m so much more confident with my recurve 😕
In other news I got certified by Australian Canoeing as a Sea Kayak Guide last week which is kinda cool. Now I just need to become competent at bowfishing and I would have one of the tiniest and most niche markets in my pocket… sea kayaking/bowfishing guide for tropical north Queensland, haha. Good luck with that business idea pal 😀
in reply to: Spring fever #63631It’s actually autumn here, but I forgive you guys for all your upside down, back to front seasons 😉
I got down to the range today (during work hours no less) for a spot of shooting. I’m really enjoying my EFA bowquiver too. It’s a nice little quiver.

in reply to: What bow to buy #63071Has anyone ever shot one of those Bodnik bows that kustomking sells? They have a 58″ d/r ‘little stick’ for 245.
in reply to: Fletching painted carbon shafts #59692I’ve used wraps on carbon arrows. They’re cheap and easy and the glue I use works fine on them. You’re probably right about using a lacquer coat to protect the paint from the glue as well.
Welcome to tradbow 😀
in reply to: Something I found, that I shot long ago… #58534That’s a cool find man. With powerful memories obviously attached.

PS
I laughed out loud at your sig 😉
in reply to: string broke #57630I had the exact same thing happen to me years ago with a wheel bow. The arrow went a couple of yards (nock had split off) and the string snapped. When I took it to the shop the fella said ‘looks just like a dry fire’ and we figured the nock failure did just like Steve said, reproduced the same results as a dry fire.
in reply to: Practice in Less than Ideal Conditions #54796Nicely done video Hammer 😉
One of my practice challenges is to shoot late in the afternoon with the sun blazing in the corner of my eye and my target in a shady spot. It can make it a tricky challenge to pick and focus on a spot.
Probably not as tricky as that snow and wind though 😀
in reply to: FPS/Slugs and bones…. #54768Abel, David Petersen was using some high FOC sitka spruce arrows with 300gn tuffheads for a while there. The SS is strong and light and pretty readily available.
Kingy, I’m not suggesting you wouldn’t want a serious poker to poke a brown bear with 😉 It would be a proper and serious challenge I think. But like I said I’ve no experience with bears 😀 Cheers for the info too.

in reply to: What Have You Lost That Is Driving You Insane? #53289I lost a knife recently too. The funny thing is it’s by far my biggest knife, my Gerber LMF. I was going crazy looking for it. Had my field pack and day bags and webbing rigs all stripped out on my garage floor looking for the thing. Where the hell could this broadsword be?
I ended up finding it days later in a dry bag which I had set aside for a little kayaking trip full of stuff “I might want to take”, didn’t take, then forgot about the bag being set aside when I was washing/reservicing all my kayaking gear. I also found a hat and sunglasses I had been losing my mind over about a month ago. 😳
in reply to: FPS/Slugs and bones…. #53148Hey King,
those two shots you put on that piggy, were they broadsides? Those fighting pads can be seriously thick.
I don’t know the first thing about bears but I had it in my head that they are relatively ‘easy’ to penetrate. Is that true or did I just make it up somewhere along the way?
in reply to: RIGHT WING CONFUSION #53135Hay,
is it possible when you fletched the right wing feathers you used the same jig offset as for your left wing feathers? That would result in the offset fighting the wing and perhaps something wobbly could occur?

in reply to: What's in his mouth?……. a banana!!!!!!!! #51964Mate, a properly well written hunting tale, I was hooked 😀 What a fantastic experience to share with your son. Great pics too.
in reply to: Hunting As Humanizer: Then and Now #50099Something I really liked about that essay was that it was clearly reaching out to people who don’t hunt. Challenging them, inviting them in for a closer look. It’s the kind of piece that may just encourage a couple more young folk to pick up a bow and get some blood on their hands.
