in reply to: Epoxy and glue #61665
To break an epoxy bond between a head and an insert, one chap suggested I hold the ferrule against an electric hotplate. That worked but wasn’t very fast.
My next stop was my workshop. I put my soldering iron on something pretty low (I forget exactly) and held a large tip against the ferrule. Very quickly the epoxy bond broke and we could move on with our lives.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #61219Ralph, I’m glad you dodged the fire mate. There’s no mucking about with them.

That’s a good shot Bruce, but I think the idea of stump shooting is to hit the stump with you arrow, not your bow.
I always enjoy the photos of your hills mate. Keep us updated on the bears, I love reading about bears and lions and all the things we don’t have here 😀
in reply to: What ya got goin? #57913Looks like a great afternoon Bruce!
I spent most of yesterday paddling a river looking for river access to a particular piece of land to hunt on. I forgot to bring my camera but I had my first ‘croc right next my kayak’ experience! So close I could have reached out and touched him with my hand. The story is kind of spoiled by the fact that it was a a little freshwater croc, about 2 feet long 😉 But it was still pretty neat!
Ralph, I’ll be doing that same chore this afternoon 😕

Bruce, the freshest of all Aussie food I’ve found in the States is at Jungle Jim’s in Ohio. Which is unsurprising really, Big Jims Bow Company, Jungle Jims, its all pointing to a common link. If you just ignore Jim Beam bourbon and notorious internet pests, the name is a reliable marker of excellence 😉

in reply to: Short recurves…suggestions? #57720Well, I paid for a second hand Super mag 48 yesterday, 45#. It’s coming from interstate, hopefully I’ll see it next week 😉
in reply to: Birch plywood arrow shafts #56614Kevin Forrester at http://www.forresterwoodshafts.com/ has an awesome range of hardwoods. His leopardwood goes up to 95# in 11/32. That’d be a great hardwood option I reckon.
Dave Petersen has experimented a fair bit with Sitka Spruce and a 300 grain head as well, although I think he found it less reliable than a well made carbon shaft. If you searched the forum you might find some of his posts on it, or you could send him a personal message.
You’ve come to the right place my friend, good luck 😀

I am 56 and I can still remember my dad carrying me on his shoulders so he could go brook fishing when I was about 3 or 4, stopping periodically to show me stuff like frogs and turtles to keep me happy.
Time flies, but some of those memories stand still.
David, your words actually made my heart melt a little, thinking that one day my little boy will be a grown man with memories of this time he spends with his dad. Thank you.
in reply to: Start them young #56578Thank you all for your kind words fellas 😀
Cameron, that’s one hell of a photo mate, it looks beautiful.
Steve, I think any decent dad would be rightly proud of your son’s achievements and his grounding in the realities of life. Sounds like you’ve been a very good dad indeed… your daughter sounds like she is on the right track too. Brag on my friend!

I’ve heard Ricky Gervais say it, but I don’t know if he was the first.
in reply to: Noteable Quotes! #54807Bruce, I love that Ferguson quote!
Fancy cutting down those beautiful trees we saw this afternoon to make pulp for those bloody newspapers, and calling it civilisation. Winston Churchill
(In case you can’t tell I’ve been reading a lot of Churchill lately 😉 )
in reply to: My HAT!!! DeadHead #54479She’s still good mate, just got a little character 😉
in reply to: What ya got goin? #54476Looks like a fun day Ralph! I like the desertgator 😉
in reply to: Camera Vs Phone #52191Paleo, they’re too convenient for so many things. I second what Bruce said, it’s a tool. We always have a rule at restaurants, who ever takes out their phone pays for the drinks 😉
in reply to: Glove vs. tab #51158I tried a few gloves this last year Bruce and 3rivers’ Dura-glove was the stand out for me. I rate those Cordura finger stalls over any of the leather I have tried.
