I actually got some very straight grained, clear, ash flooring and saved a few boards from it that were about 70 inches in length and 4 inches wide. I also have a 6 foot piece of Ipe to play with. I might try to laminate a R/D longbow with the two of them. They would look beautiful together. Just thought that if I had some suitable left-over pieces, I might make some arrows with it.

Thanks for that Troy, what do you suggest I seal them with? Will any decent clear coat work or do I need a spar varnish or something ?

I have to agree with Etter1, after switching from compound to a recurve I was a little unsure of how well it would perform in comparison. My bow is 40# but I draw 30.5 inches so I’m more like 47# with a well matched arrow and a sharp, 2 blade cut on contact head. All worries or doubts were erased this fall when that set up blew an arrow through both sides of a 250 pound bear at 18 yds. It sure builds your confidence when you see first hand what your bow is capable of.

I don’t know about Javelina, but there was a pretty good article in a recent past issue TBM about woodchucks and it had a few recipes. Also, for the squirrel, My Mother used to make the most delicious meat pies with squirrel and pigeon meat when I was a kid.

I’ve only ever hardened larger pieces of steel with aceteline torches so I can’t say for sure, but a propane torch might work for something as small as a steel insert.

BTW, I also have never heard of an insert bending or breaking but my experience is more limited than alot of folks on here

Ever hear of oil hardening ? This is a simple procedure used to harden steel and I’ve used it many times in the past to make cutting bits for a metal lathe out of ordinary steel. If you heat up the steel to the point that it just starts to turn red (not glowing, just barely dark red) then dunk it in a jar of old motor oil, this will harden the steel.Maybe not to the same spec. as the broadhead, but certainly much harder than it was. Just a thought, hope this helps.

I’m sure a bunch have already seen this but you asked so …..

This shot also shows my home made quiver made from an old pair of moccasins.

I’ve never hunted wild pigs but I’ve dealt with more than my share of domestic pigs and I would have to say “Teats” my friend. That would be the first thing I would look for….. or some other appendage. Sure would love to go after some pigs some day though. Good luck !

That may be so but this could be a case where its better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it !

Any good cat recipes out there ?? haha

It has become tradition in our house that bear liver and deer tenderloin shall NEVER see the freezer. When I’m lucky enough to harvest a bear, the liver comes out right away and put in a milk bath for a couple hours,(or however long it takes to skin and clean up), before cooking. Don’t know what the milk does to it but it sure is good ! Secondly, I’ve never had better liver than fresh bear liver !

Dave, I use a very similar recipe, the only difference is pancake mix instead of flour. Occasionally I will also mix half and half pancake mix and fish crisp garlic and herb mix. The whole procedure is the same though and now, after all this thinking about it, I’m getting hungry too !!

I have a nice one of a bear in the middle of a bluff charge. He came in on 2 other bears and bluffed them off the bait. I don’t know how to bring it down to 200 kb or I would post it.
