The longer distance requires greater concentration on your aimpoint and your practice has conditioned you to focus without conciously thinking about it. The middle distance rationally should be easier than the long distance and your brain is aware of that, so it lets your concentration wander. Just take an extra second to focus on the smallest detail you can see on your target no matter what distance its at and it will tighten up your groups.
I’m with that!
in reply to: I just bought my first longbow. #22311Great, hard hitting, tough as nails bow. Enjoy it! I especially liked to see its journey all the way from the US to you, via back country. the map made me feel like watching an Indiana Jones movie!

in reply to: Wonderful News! #28307I’ll keep it brief too:
Congratulations, man!!! I hope it’s a bowhunter! 😉
in reply to: wool or camo? #25204Wool or fleece is best concealment because it absorbs the sunlight, just like fur does. I have solid dark gray, plaid ( large squares), and camo wool. They all work equally good in my experience. I also hunt from the ground. This year, I was on my knees, in the open, and I had a nice buck walking towards me, alerted, all the way to about 12 yards. I had my gray pants and my perfect color/pattern plaid jacket. I didn’t spook. I wasn’t moving though! 😀
in reply to: '59 Bear Kodiak replica #19977That’s a beautiful bow, Bruce!!!
Here is mine in action in 2009… not pretty, but served its purpose 🙂 :

in reply to: '59 Bear Kodiak replica #18386Actually, I thought it was a good, informative hijacking 😀
My experience with my 7-8 years old Super Kodiak ( bought used on tradgang) is nothing but great. It’s set-up right, very fast and accurate, and is as quiet as a self bow. On top of that, it might not be a pretty bow, but it’s a Hummer! I spray painted it in camo colors, dropped it on rocks, threw it onto boulders, forgot it on top of my truck and drove away, etc… It has the scars to show for, but is still there standing tall and proud, like an old foot soldier! I hunted with it in the Fall of 09 and Spring 10, but put it away when I got my Shrew. You know what, you got me all excited now. Hmm… I might take it out in May to chase turkeys!:D
in reply to: Music to "fall" For #18373My friend and band member Vincent Henry, who is a sort of jack of all trades, playing guitar, banjo, all saxophones, flute, bass clarinet and harmonica, yup, all in one show, and playing all of them incredibly well, also plays with Tom Waits from time to time. the last time was 2010 and 2011. He also plays with Hugh Laurie the actor/musician. Vinnie is a baaad cat!! check him out on the tube. He also enjoys my hunting stories and pictures, and although being vegan, he loves opening my (full) freezer and is always in awe of the piles of dark red vacuum sealed packages!!:D
in reply to: Classic Bowman shirts? #17527I saw a timber plaid jacket up close at the ETAR. The pattern and colors could be just as good as my Autumn Brown KOM pattern in the woods, I think.
