I got such a kick out of your video that I had to show it to my wife. She laughed for 15 minutes. The said “What a good dad for being so patient with your kid and your dog”.
Can’t wait for the sequel. Practice session part II archery dad being hauled off to the Psych. hospital for nervous breakdown.

Bob No I will never ever shoot or string grandma’s bow. The only thing I am going to do is find some antler tips to replace the string antler tips she lost. The bow hasn’t been fire for around 50 years and I would think it has dryed out and become very brittle even though it looks like it has a very very good finish on it.

Thanks, What type of wax would I use? Bee’s wax, Pledge???
Like I said I know nothing about finish and bows. My Bear Kodiak has been camo painted for over 30 years so I haven’t had to do anything to it plus with the fiberglass I don’t think you have to apply anything any way.
Thanks again for your time to help me out!

in reply to: I just bought my first longbow. #49789Thank you for the instuctional video. I learned do much from watching your form and the way you controlled your mind by not blowing up and screaming. When things didn’t go according to plans. That was one funny video!
Remember kids should be on leashes and dogs should be in play pens, or something like that??

ps- Nice bow!
I don’t know much about Yew bows or sap wood and growth rings, but I have my grandmothers English Yew longbow amd it has a lighter color on the back and tbe darker orangey brown for the belly. It was made for her by a Bowyer back in the late 40’s or early 50’s. And of course asI was only a teenager when she gave it to me, I didn’t write the name of the bowyers name down. All I know is he was on the Southern Oregon coast.
So is the lighter color the sap wood?
Very good looking bow by the way. The Yew is such a nice colored wood.
Hope it shoots as good as it looks.

in reply to: Naming your bow #49735I have a Bear #55 Kodiak Hunter that I bough used in 1976. It is the only bow I have owned until a week ago when I picked up an unfinished longbow. I named the Bear bow ” OL’ Friend” because of having ot for so long and it has been such a good friend. It has sat around for years waiting for me to get catch the bug again, and start shooting and hunting with it. I caught the bug again last year. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed shooting and hunting with a stick and string. Now I have to come up with another name for the new bow. Not sure what that will be cause I haven’t shot it yet. Waiting for my custom arrows to arrive.
