in reply to: new bow help #32353
For some reason I thought you were in TX
Sorry
Old age is not for sissys:roll:
in reply to: Ron La Clair #28370He was driving when he returned my e-mail and said he would get back to me in a day or two. Really looking forward to talking with him and getting the thing ordered. 😛

Helped a lot, sent Gregg an e-mail and he responded imediately. Now the wait begins 🙁
Thanks
in reply to: Looking to plan a Dream Elk Hunt #43890I would investigate New Mexico first, since it’s the closest to us in TX. We hunted the Uncompadre N.F. in CO. but it took 24 hrs driving from Houston when I lived there. Five days is about how much time it takes to figure out what to do.
in reply to: Have You Gotten Lost? #43879The scareist time was when ptarmigan hunting in AK. When standing in the tundra it all looks the same and there are no landmarks to guide you
in reply to: Archery Show… #28448I feel componds are still in the archery catagory, since you have to hold the bow drawn, but a couple years ago TX legalized cross bows in our archery season and that is not archery. Still P.O.’d about that one 😡
in reply to: Cold this morning #28442You guys need to come to TX and hunt the bow season. 70 degrees in the morning gnats flying up your nose and getting in your eyes biting flies. Sweating like a pig even though you wearing a camo T shirt. Then the afternoon hunt close to 90 degrees. Yea, I’ll take the cold 😛
in reply to: Corn feeders #57860In TX it can be required on some leases, I wish they would outlaw it here. Then, since you have to pay to play in TX. lease costs would decrease substantially. Hunting leases in TX can get as high as $6-8K per person in S TX. but average $2-3K per year.
In TX it’s legal to bait, on top of that because of land rights that date back to TX independance in the 1830’s land owners can pretty much do what they want with their land and their wildlife. There are ranches that are enclosed with 12 ft high fences using the excuse that we want to grow trophy deer and not have our neighbors kill any trophy prospects.
To me there isn’t a differance in this or a game preserve. Lot’s of Texans will say a deer can hide in an acre of land, that’s true but he still can’t escape to safety.
If TX Parks and Wildlife Dept would outlaw baiting and high fence ranches, I could still find a lease that didn’t cost $3K or better.
in reply to: I'm going to give a bow away (winner on pg3) #20712Troy that is outstanding offer and a beutiful bow. I hope who ever gets it, will be someone who is just afraid to take that first step into traditional archery. It’s always great to see one more person corrupted, I mean moving into the sport:P
in reply to: Bowlight for night hunting? #20578Crystalshrimp wrote: Has anyone here had any experience with hunting with a bow mounted light? I was just about to purchase one online and figured it would be best to get some advice on it first. Any suggestions as to what brand and color of light? Ill be mainly hunting Hogs and varmits with this maybe a little Fishing? Thanks guys.

Hogs in TX are not game animals and not protected so you can hunt them any time
in reply to: What draw weight would you recommend? #16155This has just happened to me, I picked up my Sarrels Bobcatt, after a layoff, it’s 48# @ 28″, the best I can do is 30# @ 26 1/2″. Maybe next year 😕
in reply to: Dec/Jan issue #16602Get the digital version!
But it’s uncomfortable sitting in the W/C with a computor on your lap
in reply to: Hunting Deer with a 35# bow… #10057Although I disagree with it, Texas has no minimum draw strength but we also allow cross bows during the archery only season:(
