in reply to: Walking with my Kustom King Black Forest #31927
George, as always thanks for taking us on your walks. Very nice bow.
David, I had to comment on what you said about pretty bows that are lousy. I have made my share of bows, even take some whitetails with them, but they have never been anywhere near what a master bowyer can do. Easier to make a pretty bow than it is to make a real shooter.
Anyway, George, that Black Forest is both pretty and a shooter, thanks again..

in reply to: Huntmore 360 stool – A Review #47258A little follow-up on the HuntMore. Set it up at home, decided right then and there that I was keeping it. I have used it only once so far and it is a learning experience like with a lot of new equipment, but I am very happy with it. Don’t think I have ever been as comfortable on a hunt. The big feet, adjustable legs, and large seat do a really great job. My son took one look at the HuntMore and wants one too. I will follow up with some more later.
I have a set of Cablea’s MT050 coat and bibs rain gear. This is good stuff but takes up a good amount of space in my back pack. When I am on stand I find myself using the coat like a poncho. My conclusion, I am going to get a poncho and just keep it in my back pack and leave the rain gear at home.
in reply to: FACEPAINTERS ONLY #23940I tried some this week. This is amazing stuff. No more cork for me, this stuff is great! Give it a try.
in reply to: Huntmore 360 stool – A Review #19473Just placed an order. I am going to spend a good amount of time in my living room with the huntmore, nothing like taking it to the woods but I want to be able to return it. I have problems sitting in just about any chair due to some nerve damage so I will be somewhat of an exception/difficult case. The 10 day trail period seems very fair to me, unfortunately for what the darn postage cost these days it still can be expensive. Twenty dollars for shipping one way!
I will tell you that I am already impressed with the service, at least Scott, I left a PM here before I went to bed last night and had a reply waiting for me this morning.

in reply to: Hunting Knives #18447Buck 110, that’s my favorite. Getting one for Xmas, had one for years, it just seems right.
in reply to: A Confession and an Oath #17174Patrick, I guess I am the opposite when I find something that works I stick with it. Fedora 560 TD, goldtip with a lot of weight up front and a stinger. I often think about getting another bow then I realize that it could be as good as the Fedora but more than likely not better, sometimes I wish the Fedora was not so sweet:D. I have made a number of bows also and when it is time to go the Fedora goes with me.
I am not trying to promot Fedora (even though it sounds like it), could be any other well made bow. My point is if you like what you got and it works why change.
in reply to: The "older" Bowhunter #17164Good for you ralphs, keep it up!
in reply to: bow position while waiting #17163Thanks guys, hope it is of some value to you all. My objective was cheap/simple. I don’t always use it, if there is a sapling to rest the bow on I do that if I am going to be in the same spot for a long time I use the block to hold the bow. These days I tend to be a little forgetful so one of the things I like best about it is that it did not cost anything.
I probably should have painted it red so I could find it.
My son shoots a compound sometimes, he also made a recurve (with my help) and he is using the recurve this year mostly. Anyway he purchased a new release aid for the compound and lost it the first time he used it. Those things are not cheap, anyway here is the point…the dumm thing was painted in camo to make sure you can’t find it if you drop it!

in reply to: bow position while waiting #14208OK, here is a pic of what I was talking about.
And here is a close up of the simple block.
Obviously, I have a rubber nock protector on the end in the mud. I have found this to work well for natural ground blinds when you a sitting for a long time.
in reply to: The "older" Bowhunter #13894Sounds like a lot of us our in the same boat. I am heading to my GP for a check up also. Don I certainly agree with not using age as an excuse, it just takes a little longer and for some of us hurts more.
in reply to: ABS Maasai single bevel broadhead give away Winner #11554Yep, put me in too!
in reply to: The "older" Bowhunter #10493I think one of the best things we can do is walk 2 to 5 miles everyday. I need to start doing that again, I feel so much better when I do. In my case I have to just ignore some of the pain and discomfort, as David said “embrace the pain as a friend”.
