We quickly ruled out the 500 and 750 spined shafts. However, ALL the others were flying very well. Very little wobble or wagging could be seen with the naked eye out to 25 yds. He was shooting groups of about 3.5″ at 20 yds. with all the rest of the shafts. I don’t mean each spine, I mean shooting all of the diferent spined shafts into a group at 20 yds. ! These shafts, with all that weight up front, flew like darts.
We finally had to break out the paper to see which shafts actually were flying better. This is the results:
in reply to: Outserts for skinny shafts #9917David,
We’ve kinda set the top limit at 425gr. I know that’s not very much, but this is 40 #’s with a short draw. We’ve tried that and heavier. When he shoots heavier, the trajectory is prohibitively rainbow-like. It just so happens it’s relatively easy to get that arrow weight and high FOC when the shafts are short like his.

Actually, no.

We’ve got some mounted but just haven’t tested them yet. I have skinny shafts from 750 up to 500 spine and everything in between. We’ll be testing this weekend for sure and maybe sooner….will keep you posted.
in reply to: Outserts for skinny shafts #55118I’m a machinist and the shop I work at allows us to do projects like this if the machines aren’t tied up. Really, for something like this, it would cost someone a fortune to come in with a small order for parts like this. The programming and set-up time alone would kill you before a part was made. I did the programming and set up on my own time (it was for my kid – priceless).

they were done on a CNC.
Troy, I thought the same thing. It also eliminates the typically weak hinge point that the factory inserts for these shafts have.

in reply to: Original Natal Study… #9900thank you. I’ve been a lurker here for a while… I’ve read through all the Ashby Studies and most of the TBM articles. This was actually a hard copy I had given to me many years ago. It was maybe 12 pgs long. I’m guessing it it was more of the raw data rather than a full summary like most of the Study parts. It just bugs me that I can no longer find it in my stockpile of stuff and I’d like to see it again.
