in reply to: Interview with Dave Peterson #33277
I thought the interview in TBM was very good. Having read four of Daves books I really enjoy his writing even if it is a topic I don’t agree with him on.
in reply to: Bugling in June #49442I asked a good friend of mine who is a guide and rancher in the Gunnision area he spends alot of time on both private and public land about this. Heres his reponse
Yes cows do make a a bugle sound. And I see and hear it alot. The cows with all there calves will be hearded up, the lead or head cow will bugle to gather and move the heard. I will ride up into a bedding heard on the horse, the elk have no real fear of the horse or me unless i get off, a cow will bugle short but bugle and the heard will get up with there calves and move on. I have seen bulls bugle not just spikes, they seem to shadow the cows and calves in the spring, early summer a cow will bugle and most likely a spike will respond, I have seen larger bulls in the dark timber bugle on cool mornings or nights, I do not think there is a good reason why, maybe they are just feeling good.
in reply to: EFoc and Carbon Arrows #38210Recently got some easton Flatline arrows, at 340 spine and 8.2 gpi. With a 1.5″ 2117 footing, a 2315 1″ over this. A 100 grain brass insert 100 grain steel adapter and 200 grain grizzly I am able to get 32.5% FOC. Total arrow weight is 670 grains. This arrow still gives me very good trajectory out of a 60# curve it hits super hard and will be some bad medicine for the elk this year.
in reply to: New Ashby update just posted; health issues #41256So much good info in his reports. He has changed the way I setup my arrows. Thank you:D
in reply to: How do I make a heavy carbon arrow? #36276With your current setup you had both good arrow weight (600 + grains) and fairly high FOC 20% at least. I would have thought you would of had no problem with penetration. Perhaps you were not having perfect arrow flight. I would look there first.
in reply to: Mechanical Advantage question #16108I guess in theory yes. But taking a double to a single is a job. You would be removing alot of metal. Also some broadheads dont have the strength to hold up to a single bevel. The edge would roll on any major hit. All this would lower your MA. Just my thought
in reply to: Part 3 of the 2008 Updates — just posted! #53420😯 After looking at some of the charts! Thats some info right there.
in reply to: ABS Ashby single bevel BH #39725ED what do you think of the Abowyer Brown Bear I cant remember if I read anything in the studies on them. Have you seen any of their screw in models?
Thanks
in reply to: Time to increase EFOC #33509Man thats some low arrow weight. WEight tubes will give you more weight but you will lose some of your foc. If you really want to get a EFOC as you said your going to have to get a stiffer shaft to get more weight up front.
in reply to: Shoulder Shots 2 #32044Deer was 20 yards quatering away, I was 18 ft up a tree. A large Northern Missouri doe 140lbs live weight deer. This was the entrance side going thru the oppsite side where the scapla and leg bone meet breaking it. Completly going thru, Arrow was a 25%FOC, footed, skinnycarbon with a SilverFlame on top. In the last few years the differance has been huge in penatration since going to the “right” arrow. King what are you talking about, 2 blades dont leave blood trails and arrows dont go throug bones:lol
in reply to: My favorite homemade small game arrows. #18928I like, the best small game heads are usually the ones we make ourselves. Although that looks better then any I normally make.
in reply to: adapter points #10026They do seem to ad another weak spot to the arrow.
