Woodman – sent you a PM.
in reply to: What's in a Name? #16450I spend alot of time in and hunt in the JEMez mountains with my BOw.
In recent years I’ve spent alot of time restoring/remodeling our cabin built by my father-in-law back in the early sixties. Our grandkids are the fourth generation to enjoy it. And when not working on the cabin just being there is enough for me… flyfishing, hiking, bird watching, etc.
Also, growing up in New Orleans I took to music at a young age but put it on the back burner for almost thirty years. Recently I’ve been bitten by the bug again and discovered I can still play. So I’ve been sitting in around town playin’ the blues and some (light weight) jazz. Sometimes in life you take a long journey to end where it all began.
in reply to: Javelina hunt #22476DP – I appreciate the rabbit trails. And speaking of that it’s hard to beat well pan fried rabbit. This past Sept. with no luck in drawing an elk or deer license I had the pleasure of helping my oldest Grandson on his first succesful small game hunt. At our bi-annual family gathering we feasted on grouse, rabbit and squirrel (Abert). I’ve never had quail. Frustrating thing is we have dozens of them come to our bird feeder – Gambel’s and Scaled. Beautiful to look at but off limits to shooting where we live. Whitetail tenderloin for dinner last night… yum. The earth is bountiful!
in reply to: Javelina hunt #21422Thanks for the input guys. Friends who’ve tried them suggest making sausage. If success comes I’ll experiment with a little of both. I’ll post a report next week.

in reply to: It's "stumpin" hot out there! #56963I don’t know about Colorado but parts of northern New Mexico got a bunch of rain this month. Our cabin – 8,400′ elev. – recorded almost seven inches in July. We had less than a tenth the six weeks prior with high temps and winds. You could almost see it green up before your eyes.Things are good for now.
in reply to: Colorado Burning #20384I thought we were dry in northern New Mexico until we spent time near Gunnison last week. Very scary, I’ve never seen the sage in the valleys or timberline meadows so brown in June. Pray for rain.
in reply to: Stumping in NewmEXICO #20376It’s VERY dry! We did get a bit of rain last night though hardly enough to measure. On a related note the Santa Fe National Forest announced it’s decision on the new Travel Management Plan. The new plan will greatlty reduce the number of roads and trails available to vehicles. In addition indiscriminate cross-country vehicle use, which surprisingly has been legal, will be gone. This is great news for one of New Mexico’s most beautiful ares and a real victory for those seeking traditional outdoors experiences.
in reply to: Last Colorado Grizzly #36901In May of ’79 I moved my family from Louisiana to Colorado for some Rocky Mountain adventure. When the story broke it added a new dimension of excitement and mystery to our treks, especially being young bayou transplant.
in reply to: Who Hunts Alone Most of the Time? #34810Hunting solo is my preference except when my sons and grandsons are around.Since they could walk my boys have followed me through the swamps os Louisiana to the peaks of Colorado and now the high desert of New Mexico. And now to see their sons tag along with them (and me) takes the experience to a new level.
in reply to: PBS and Portland in March? #63566I spent the Holidays in Portland with my son and his family; what a beautiful city. ‘Was planning to go until our other son announced a new granchild coming about that time in the opposite direction. New grandchild trumps PBS. My son and grandson will be there.
btw I’d rather drive twelve hours than fly two.
in reply to: ELK HUNTING HELP #49972Sent you a PM.
