Wise words to be sure. I hope my intentions are not misread. I meant for this thread to be a discussion to contribute to rather than a debate to be won or lost.
That being said, I might as well chime in myself.
I am a Christian. I was raised on stories of a loving creator God whom I accepted as my Lord and Saviour. In this light, I view my time spent in creation (and as a part of it) as a great gift. We are to be faithful stewards of nature, not selfish exploiters of it. We have a lot to learn from what we have not polluted. I feel drawn to traditional bowhunting because it dovetails perfectly (or can, at least) with these values.in reply to: Righthanded/ left eye dominate #44979Both of my little girls are right handed and left eye dominant. I started them on the bow & arrow around age 5. 4 and 1 year(s) later, they both understand that that is how they shoot.
All the best with your girls.in reply to: Wolf observation. #41674I agree, well said.
Here in Manitoba, the grey wolf is managed like any other game animal. If populations are deemed out of balance, bag limits are increased/decreased. I’m no biologist, but from my perspective, it seems to be working.in reply to: How do you find your arrows? #298212 things for me:
-“judo” style points or wide rubber blunts (to keep them from getting burried).
-blaze orange (crest wraps, fletching, and nocks) for visibility.in reply to: Is this safe? #17445It’s not something I’ve done a lot, but everything was normal on my shafts. (I use Carbon Xpress Heritage shafts.)
I believe the guys at Alaska Bowhunting Supply (makers of Grizzly Sticks) recomend this method for stripping fletching that’s been applied on top of a vinyl crest wrap (like I use).in reply to: Is this safe? #16812I’ve used the boiling water method with great results.
in reply to: Predator Recipes #26232Thanx for the thoughts all.

I think that bees have an adaptive advantage over wasps & hornets in that they have to think before they sting. They only get one shot. Years ago I stepped in a wasps’ nest while hiking. Aproximately 10 minutes after ridding my poor tender flesh of these brave home-defenders (let’s be honest, they had good reason to attack), I saw one still trying to sting me through my wool sock.in reply to: Who makes a good pair of pants these days??? #44254I’ve been pretty happy with my “8-pointer” bibs from Big Bill (http://www.bigbill.com) – very tough. They have a good hunting/outdoor line. -might be a good one to check out.

in reply to: missing hair on my forearms??? #32722I strop with jeweler’s rouge (the white one) on paper. The paper rests on a piece of polished stone to keep it perfectly smoth and flat. This gives you a mirror polish.

Oh, come on! I think that gun control among law-abiding hunters has prevented countless gang related shootings in downtown Toronto:?.
But to answer your question, I don’t carry anything specific to animal self defence. If I found myself in the nightmare scenario you suggest, I would reach for a hatchet, machete, knife, pointed stick, banana (Monty Python reference) or anything else I could to fight. However, my few bear stories all end with them running away.in reply to: whats everyone favorite BOW ? #12412One with something delicious on the other side.:)
