in reply to: Promoting and protecting #63397
Hey Steve, Blessings! Thanks for the reply. Yep, kinda of an introduction of what my Values represent and how I feel about hunting. Trolls exist on the net and surface from time to time
I would like those on this site to know that I am Genuine.
I started with compounds because I had no knowlege of One strings. 1995 started me with a Quillian Patriot recurve. I killed an Elk and a good Buck that year with the Recurve and had one of the best seasons of my life. I now have a dozen or more recurves. My interest in being here is to be in good company with those who whose interest in Hunting and shooting the one string (Trad equipment) is there way of enjoying the Hunt. Sorry if I sound somewhat eccentric. I probably am. 🙂in reply to: Dacron vs Fast Flight #62835Neither one is better from the standpoint of durability or utility. “It’s all personal preference”!:)
in reply to: Promoting and protecting #62833Come on fellas, or Gals! No other woods cup drinkers out there?:)
in reply to: NRA pros and cons #62814Oh well, to me firearms are the most important!
That explains your priorities.
Firearms Protect, Provide food, and are prized possessions of ownership.
See, not much has changed in several hundred years by those who really need them.
Several good Orgs. out there, join and support the one you wish.
For me and mine, the NRA.:)in reply to: Promoting and protecting #61777Back, Yes we must keep our private lives unsullied as an example by incorporating the things which mean the most to those who watch for any opening to critic us in any way.
Yes, how you conduct yourself even if you have a “Run in” or disagreement with someone will usually dictate the outcome.
Many of you do not know me here. I am a ‘Bowhunter” first and foremost with an optimistic attitude toward the future of the hunt. I do not like to call it “Sport” because that represents competition. I compete only with the fulfillment of my woods cup. I have it go dry if not shooting my recurves on a daily basis and souting, planting food plots and just being a a part of the “wildlife” in the woods. Yes, I want to hang a Deer but, I want to do it in such a way that it satifies me and the cup is filled up to the brim. It must be relaxed, legal, fair, (I do not like the words “Fair chase”, that sounds like Fox hunting with Beagles. I like the word “Fair” which to me, means a one string silently stalked or quietly waited upon, the quary. Then poked with the sharpest (I relish sharpening my Zwicks) blade from the best tuned instrument I have been able to tune, and cleanly leaked the life giving fluid from the “Food”. Short trails, and patiently skinned and quartered to my table. Delightfully prepared and enjoyed to the max each morsel.Easy ways, No! Why? Well the appreciation for it all could not be enough to the standards of my drink of the woods. Not strong enough to taste the rich experiences gained in the “Real Stuff” which I prefer. No creamers, no suger, no clear liquids for me. I want the strong brew for my woods cup! Not deluted, just pure one strings (Trad Bows) which are the natural blend for my trips to the woods. If all is done right! and the proper blend is achieved, My cup is filled. I drink to satisfaction what the only the Woods cup can provide.in reply to: Dacron vs Fast Flight #61757I hear ya Montana, I’ve thought of useing good ole Dacron on all my Bows for the ease they have on limbs, and the silence they provide. FF only has a few gains over Dacron.:)
in reply to: Those Damn Scratches!! #61756Me thinks you need to fill them in with Tru-oil and hunt on.
Character, thats what they are! from hunts gone by in the field. Sick in bed later on and cannot make it to the woods, look at the scratches and remember how they happend, Memories! Good ole Bows all have them.:)in reply to: Conflicting Emotions about gun hunting… #61754Hey Iron, Blessings from an Arky! No Deer with your Bow?
We must have meat! Feed your family the best meat which is the wild kind. I use a “Smoke pole” during gun season if I am out of meat. That seems to satisfy my guilt a little about not having been successfull with my one string.:)in reply to: Defining "Traditional" Bowhunting #61582One string.
in reply to: NRA pros and cons #61578Challenge away! Healthy, respectful discussion is the best way to educate.
Fact one. There are those who want to outlaw hunting.
Fact two. There are those who would like all firearms outlawed.
Fact three. The NRA stands between us and them lobbying Washington everyday to protect and preserve both.
How? By preserving firearms, they preserve hunting.
Archery equipment is a means by which game is taken.
Those who would have your hunting, would like to have your means to do so!
Simple analogy Johnny: You must see the entire scope of things in order to understand that: Private, legal, ownership of firearms is protected by the constitution. Should be the simple end of the story but, it is not! The Anti’s are one and the same threat to both Hunting and firearms which will lead to your archery equipment.
OK, be niave if you will but, at least educate yourself with reality by exploreing the subject more. We must protect the pre-requisite to our beloved Bow by supporting the orgs that are legitemately support our “Birth right”. Get on board Man! We need you.:)in reply to: Take down recurve #61419Bet you can do it! My money is on your ability and desire to do it since you obviuosly, like me, Love archery!:)

in reply to: Bow length article a few issues back? #60662Hey Dpowers, I really think it boils down to the riser geometry and pre-load on the limbs.
Short draw guys should look for a Bow with more pre-load than worrying about the length (tip to tip).
There are several reasons for this. One is that the shorter draw has more to gain quicker in the draw cycle, which means the more pre-load, the more the limb will stack at longer draws. So what is a good riser geometry for the 25, 26, inch draw lengths would stack at 28, or 29.
Thats why the manus recommend bow lengths for draw lengths. Longer bow, generally less stack at longer draws.
Personally I think length should not be the determining factor. Geometry should changed in the Bow design for the shorter or longer draw lengths.
Generally the less angle built into the riser which usually lowers brace heighth is way to go for the short draw guy if you want maximum efficiency.
I know the shorter Bows are easier to get around in woods and out of treestands but, I prefer the longer Bows for several reasons. 62 to 66 for me at my 28 in. draw.in reply to: Fellow opinions on Carbon #60639Hey Kodiak how are you? Just a question or two about your set-up. What kind of Bow (make) and whether or not your string is FF? Is your Bow center shot, elevated rest or off the shelf?
Bet I can tell you that you already will have a good FOC with the heavy broad head your shooting.
400 spine carbons should be plenty without me considering the above variables.
340’s etc are very stiff for your set-up currently.
Are you going to add more weight up front in addition to the 175?
I recommend that you cut your shafts in small increments from a full length shaft while bare shafting for the correct spine. I would also only purchase one or two shafts of several different spines to arrive at the correct choice before you buy multiple shafts.in reply to: Take down recurve #60508Sounds like a worthy endeaver. I’ve heard the Binghams make a really good Bow kit. Hope you’ll post your progress if you choose to do build one.
I have thought about it but, realized my time is already limited. Maybe after re-tirement when I have more time. Make it to next May and I have 25 good to go.:) -
