in reply to: How far will you shoot? #19166
Less than 20 yards for me. 12-15 is perfect.
in reply to: Does this sowbelly make me look old? #18036She’s a real beaut. Enjoy her.
in reply to: Coaching app #15805Sounds like it could be a great help with form, Jim. Thanks for sharing that.
in reply to: First Hunt–camouflage #15804Yeah, Mike. Keep it coming.
in reply to: First Hunt #15800Win, lose, or draw, Mike, sounds like a great time being around all of those birds. I look forward to the rest of the story.
in reply to: Spalted Maple Bow #13621That’s one fine bow, and you are quite a craftsman. Congrat’s.
in reply to: I just bought my first longbow. #13619Beautiful bow, Jim. Enjoy getting to know it.
in reply to: Worried About Myself #7754This is a great thread. My father taught me an appreciation of all things and all aspects of being out in the wild places (I’ll always love him for that), so I’ve never really given much thought to limits and such, though the hunting of and possible killing of an animal is the main reason we go out there with our bows and broadheads. But I, too, have a friend, though I don’t hunt with him because of this, who puts all stock in the end result, mostly neglecting the journey there. He’s the definition of “killer of animals” not of “hunter.” I’m a hunter, tried and true. Love the process from beginning to end, regardless of the end result.
We’re having a rather normal April. Still snow in the shadows, and the ground’s still frozen beneath a couple inches of soggy earth. I grow organic vegetables for a living and am always impatient this time of year. Checked my farm journal and saw that I had some veggies (kale, Brussels Sprouts, peas, cabbage, and broccoli) in the ground last year in March. A crazy year that was.
in reply to: New Bow/The Good Hunt #58159Wow. That is certainly generous of you, Mike. I do hope it works out.
in reply to: Arrow Question(s)… #55183Alex, stain the wood before sealing it. Also, you shouldn’t have to seal the crown with polly, though some do. Do the whole shaft, then cut your tapers and glue on points/heads and nocks.
Have fun—Arrow building can be quite addictive.
in reply to: Question for David Petersen #55175That’s a different style than mine, but it’ll work well for ya. Accusharp makes a good product. Enjoy.
in reply to: Question for David Petersen #54324I run the tool over the blade, myself. And they do seem to work just fine on my cheapie knives also.
in reply to: Aussie turkeys #51082Thanks for sharing these photos and information, Jim. It’s a rather intersting bird, your turkey.
in reply to: What Kind if Winter Have You Had? #48898Not a bad winter here in Maine. Saw the first four deer in the yard yesterday evening—two does with two yearlings. They looked good and healthy, thick around the mid-section. Looks like they survived well.
