in reply to: Oh WOW, Never Had A Day Like This #37403
David, living and hunting here in Montana we are very lucky that we have vast amounts of public land to hunt without paying for its use.
I do have my blind set up on my uncles place of 250 acres, and have been watching the deer closely. Most if not all of them have been passing, as they just have been out of my comfort zone with a traditional bow which is out past 20 yards.
I had hoped for a shot on a nice doe yesterday that was just 43 yards. She stopped, sniffed the upper branches above her head, then rolled on the ground like she was easing an itch.. sat there laughing at that one. I thought maybe this is the one, as she looked like she was going to take the upper trail that would have passed just within 10 yards. My heart was pounding in my chest at the excitement of a whitetail deer by my traditional bow.
Well as luck would have it, she decided to head back down to the lower pasture.
I had one other one, that passed within 30 yards, but it was heavily tree’d and the shot was not presenting itself for her into the ribs, so I had to pass.
in reply to: Grasshopper #32744Yep, they be quick 😆
in reply to: Newbe-wanabe #32575Red, welcome to TBH and may your addiction only grow. There is such peace about taking just the traditional bow into the woods. You will discover, just how much lighter they are to carry as well 😆
in reply to: Who is your bowhunting hero and why? #32481SteveMcD wrote: Yep.. Have to agree with most, My only “Hero” is Jesus Christ.
Never had any bowhunting / archery heros mainly because I had no mentors other than my friends, so I am for the most part – self taught.
Although, I owe most credit to my Dad, who always had time to take me fishing and introduce me to the outdoors.
Steve, I’m right with you there brother <
in reply to: I saw him before he saw me… #32456Love this kind of stuff 8)

in reply to: One of the great thing about trad bows #11370My wife and I have been lucky all these years, never been violated with a break in. I am sorry for your loss of guns, jewlery and other stuff. I am glad they did not get your bow. A buddy of mine had his truck broken into and his new modern compound bow just days old that he had with him showing it off.
in reply to: Rainy day issues… #61307Spray your broadheads with Pam, yes it works. Pack along rain resistant wear, rain proof makes lots of noise in the woods. I wore wool socks the other day, which really helped my feet because my boots got soaked as well as my lower legs from the wet long grass.
in reply to: I customized my Super Kodiak #58144When I got my Super K Grayling, it was covered in camo, which was removed promptly with instructions from 3Rivers because of the Rustolium paint that was used.
in reply to: Hunting Hats for 2010 #58136Just found this today from Paramount Bush hats, but in camo only. This was the style I was looking for all a long, is 55% cotton 45% polyester. It feels like it will help repel rain a bit as well.
in reply to: Tree saddle anyone? #57708Well deer busting your stand or you in a tree is because that same tree had been used by a noisy hunter before. Deer don’t look up unless they were given a reason before. Matt uses spikes for his feet, so he is not touching any bark making noise, other users milage may vary depending where they set up and how they set up.
Your statement about giving up form, sorry I had to chuckle. Have you never shot from sitting on your butt, on the ground, or on one knee? You must learn to shoot from all positions that you can or could encounter while bowhunting.
Now for me, I’m stickly a spot and stalk hunter. Even though I tried Matt’s Tree Saddle, I like working from the ground because I keep it the K.I.S. meathod. But Steve I felt as you do, when I first saw this contraption, and because I saw it worked by a guy who uses it all the time it changed my mind.
But I will still keep to the ground.
in reply to: Tree saddle anyone? #56675A buddy of mine here, that hunts Africa quite a bit has tried all the stands etc… The Tree Saddle is all he will use. At one of our Bowhunter Education Classes, Matt demonstrated just how fast you can go around a tree once your up there. Just about 360* radius.
Much lighter than any stand available today, and more versital as well.
in reply to: My Hickory Long bow is finally done #53391Nice bow.
