Just sayin’, if a longbow stacks it’s not made for your draw length, or not a very good quality bow. As far as “hand shock”, the majority is from shooting it with a recurve type grip. Some are very smooth & some aren’t. Just like any other type of bows. as for as performance goes. Yeah, the curve’s & Hybrids are a bit faster. Not that an animal will be able to tell. There isn’t a quieter bow. Ever. Just sayin’.

I agree on The knocking Point & Braveheart Archery. Both are knowledgeable & good folks. Mike at The Knocking Point only charges actual shipping costs.

got to agree with Dave. The shelf if the way to go. It wou’t fall off or make a noise when you draw. It also puts the arrow much closer to the hand. That will definitely help your shooting.

in reply to: wood arrows? #21830

I really enjoy wood arrows. They’re much quieter coming off the bow. I do enjoy making them. Staining, dipping them. That said, I do shoot metal & carbon from time to time.

            Steve,
Old Byron said that but, he shoots alum. arrows.

              Limblover,
I’ve never used a 3 blade head but, a friend, Mickey “The Ferret” Lotz used them for years to kill just about everything you can think of in NA. He used 50 to 53 lb. bows. If I liked them & didn’t have trouble sharpening them, I wouldn’t hesitate to use them. JMO

                Steve,
I don’t get to this site very often but, you’re one of the people I think about when I get here. Please keep faith with the Lord & he will take care of you. You & yours are in my prayers. God Bless.

                  Cris,
You have been given some very good advice from T Downing. I would do as he says.

I own a Thunder Stick Mag. Best longbow I’ve ever shot. It’s only 58 ins. long 50@28. Fast, stable, quiet & no hand shock that I can feel. I don’t see how anybody could go wrong. The price is very reasonable.

I own a Thunder Stick Mag. I shot a few of Jim Reynolds bow. They’re fantastic sticks. They’re everything you could ask for in a longbow. I’ve never heard anybody say anything negative about the. To top it off, they are very reasonably priced. Your text to link here…

I use a Bitz that I’ve had for forty years. Went to tape 5 or 6 years ago. Have had excellent luck with it. I always put a drop of glue on the front edge of the feather. Don’t know that it needs it but, it makes me more confident:)

Pretty good George. Is that some of your own work? About half way thru, it started sounding like Chet Atkins music. Thanks, really enjoyed it.

I haven’t got a chance to try them yet but, Surewood shafts are ed to be very good. They’re Doug fir. I understand they are very straight & consistent in spine & weight. They guys that run it are said to be good people to work with.

                                Dave,
Yeah. An orthodontist would sure help.:D

I’m not against carbon or aluminum. It’s just new folks seem to be getting some misinformation about some things. I see a lot of threads about how to squeeze the last fps. out of your setup. Shoot extra light arrows with smaller & smaller feathers or vanes and lighter & smaller strings. Some will put up with a noisy bow & take a chance on shortening the bow life. All in the name of 5fps. For me, when the small things get worried to death, the fun leaves. Maybe I don’t worry about the little things enough. Lord knows I can use all the help I can get. If a fella wants to use carbons, that’s entirely up to the individual. As long as it’s a efficient, humane setup, I’ll back you all the way. I just love the simplicity of trad gear & guess I need to back off & let folks do what they believe is right. Some times I’m an old curmudgeon. Nice conversation.

IMO only. All the rage today has taken a fairly simple sport & turned it into rocket science. The worry about speed, single bevel BH, EFOC, spined to less than 2lbs. and a weight difference of less than five grains is amazing to me. Today people want to take it out of the box & it’s ready to go. What has happened to the [u]fun[u]in archery. I use wooden arrows. Sometimes bamboo with selfnocks & broadheads that I sharpen myself. All of the stuff will shoot better than I can. When I got away from compounds, I thought I had left all that behind. I’m not putting down advances or anybody that uses them. Some advances are great. Others are a manufacturer’s selling point. Anyone who tells you that woodies aren’t accurate are not telling you the truth or haven’t used them much. The person who can tell the difference in well spined wood arrows & carbons or aluminums, are few & far between. If I upset anyone, sorry. That was not my intention. I just wanted to give the new people a different perspective.
