in reply to: TBM's Ol Dave Petersen got his Coues #32677Congrats!!! Hope someday you will write about your hunts and share those memories of such a majestic animal. Thank you Dave!!!
in reply to: The Werewolf #32661Wow!!! That’s what I call a Werewolf!!! Nice job Blake and I was just throwing the colored teflon out there.I will be ordering me some bh and fpt.
in reply to: The Werewolf #18584Blake can’t wait to try them out. If you would also offer fielding points to match always a problem to find with other bh. How bout a match color of teflon of sort to compliment the colored ferrules.
Never hunted them but want to. I have several friends who have with rifles. They are tough animal to take even with rifles. I would recommend a set up the same for I would use to hunt Elk. I would take quartering away shots I believe their vitals sit higher in the chest like african game. They also visit their same dung piles is a good place to ambush one. What refuge you plan to hunt in Texas. Also check with texasbowhunter.com they have a trad forum you can inquire some firsthand experience. Good luck.
in reply to: Pulling Tusks? #13053Turoc is right cook it down get all flesh off then fresh out of pot yank on them. If you wait tell it drys then the jaw bone will have to be cut to remove them. The tusk flare towards the end. The bigger boars with big tusk sometimes you still have to cut the jaw bone.
in reply to: Anyone try out the simmons Interceptor #60357I shoot the treesharks used them for years. Its a good bh just hard to really get scary sharp. I even use the bh sharpener that they recommend. I can say this they leave one hell of entrance an exit hole. I am in the market for one of those wheel sharpeners that fit a bench grinder that may work on these heads. Good luck
in reply to: A Miss and A Test of Resolve #50765Everyone above has said it to the “T” keep faith it will come that’s why they call it Traditional Bow Hunting brother good luck!!!!!!
in reply to: Longbow buck #28220Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!
in reply to: Helix broadheads #25081I totally agree George. I still use the same bh for past 15 years. I was told about them looked them up on the web then noticed Mr. Strickland being affiliated with it, and him being a trad archer himself brought curiosity who else may know anything about the heads etc……….
in reply to: Big Russian Boars #53838That would be here in Texas of course. Its a fact there is land owners who have hogs and one soon to have hogs. There are ranches here who are close to putting bountys on them for the devastation they leave behind. There are lots of state land as well to hunt just contact state wildlife dept. Then their are your local ranches mostly in the central to east and southern part of state who would appreciate the help. If you are willing to coe down get a group together.
in reply to: ARE LONG SHOTS PUZZLING TO ALL?? #47726Rebstud sounds if you may be battling between your instinctively side to gap shooting at longer ranges. When i personally start let them fly at longer yardages i battle it as well. I find myself slowing down trying to think to much instead of just let my instinctive take over that’s when i have better groups just like you said at shooting at shorter yardages good luck!!!
in reply to: What type of bow does everyone shoot #45730Right now a 62″ centaur longbow 62# @ my 30″ draw love it!!! Also 62″ sweptwing recurve 64# @ my 30″ . Lost a sweptwing recurve, and acadian woods hybrid that both were stolen when my house was robbed 2 years back. Im patiently waiting for my new blackmoutain/dryad shaman static recurve 54″ 55# @ my 30″ draw the use of ground blinds here in texas has worked well for me on couple different propertys i hunt. Im just needing a shorter bow that’s easy to maneuver. Then there are so many hogs that stalking would be easier with a shorter bow aswell
in reply to: Ashby Maasai bh #42776The reason for this topic i had purchased the Sheepeater Shaman 3pc td from Blackmountain/Dryad bows. The bow will be a 56″ 55# @ my 30″ draw. I plan on using axis fullmetaljackets arrows that i use for my other trad bows. This bow is the lightess poudage yet. I know i will have go with lighter spine than my heavier bows trying to get a bh in mind to use. Again thank you all for your advice.
