I have tried to respond to this post twice now but nothing shows .Amoose what part of washington you from. You are in my neck of the woods .Sound like a good ideal you got there .Would double check your facts just to be sure had a buddy get in trouble few years back doing bout the same thing.State nailed him said he was operating as a guide . when is this rendouveous in packwood run .
Although Washington State does not require a person to have a guides license, you are required to have Liability insurance for your clients. You must also have a special use permit on all State, WDFW and Federal lands.
You can also be cited for operating for a profit without a business licence.
I live in Chehalis, and hunt near Naselle, and “The rendezvous is in August, check the TBW website for details…
in reply to: Is it possible ? #62493Also, because I have been reprimanded by administrators for my posts seeming to sound like advertisements for clients, I want to make clear, I am not asking for any fees, nor am I soliciting, I am merely asking for advice, and seeing who might be interested in my type of “camp”
I am in the proccess of setting up my business and website, and am open to suggestions.
in reply to: Is it possible ? #62487Oh, an I live in Chehalis, and hunt near Naselle,on (or near) the coast.
in reply to: Is it possible ? #62486I agree, too many expect to charge thousands for Elk hunting an area where 250″ is about as big as you can expect, and although there might be a few bigger ones out there… ANY legal Elk with Trad equipment is a “trophy” in my book, and I only claim to be able to provide a chance to notch a tag, and really feel that the experience is more about a good camp, and a decent opportunnity to be successful.
Cooincidently, I am in contact with a couple of other Outfitter/guides hunting the same area, but they have a lodge, better set-up, but same ideals..
unfortunately (in my opinion) they are starting out charging full rates ($3000+) while I am attempting to get a reputation before I charge fees.
As it is, I am not “in business” until I get, or have a few testimonials from hunters to actually prove I can deliver, I want to be clear, I am not opporating for a profit, until I have credibility.
In order to establish credibility, I need some hunters to come experience what it is I am doing, then, and only then will I be comfortable enough to charge a fee.
My camp is more based upon just having a good hunt, good food, good friends, and some heart, liver, and backstraps in camp, not about killing “trophy” animals…

As far as trohpies go, in my opinion any elk would be a trophy. If you do decide to get this underway let me know, I’ve been looking into heading out west for a hunt in the upcoming years and an affordable would be just want I’m looking for.
in reply to: Elk hunting tips #34065wahoo wrote: All good stuff. I think this was touched on but if you live where there is elk do not over pressure. If I get into them on Sat I hunt elsewhere on Sun and Mon and come back the next week . I like to locate several herds and work them all. Deeks work also. As said elk like to see something and it is amazing when an elk sees a yellow butt and just comes in . I can’t wait – only a few more months
Good suggestion, I have 2 decoys, but seldom have time to set them up.
What I ended up doing was to put weights in the legs, and attached a bungie to the top, so I just shake them out and hang from a branch, the added motion helps attract attention.
in reply to: Elk hunting tips #30598Say what you will about “call shy” Elk, if you realize that they can hear a lot better than we can, you might figure out something I learned while hunting…
They usually only communicate vocally when not in sight of each other, and often it is a VERY soft sound.
I have had other hunters tell me that they “are not vocal” while watching a herd, but when he quit talking long enough to listen, you could hear them…
I use call sometimes that , as I explain it, are too soft for me (the caller) to hear, VERY low volume !! and get similar responses, most calls on the market today require a full force of air to get a sound, “experts” tell you to use your diaphragm, not your lungs, but a lot of the time, I just use what little air I have in my mouth, and use my throat muscles to force air through the call, remember those large things sticking out of their heads ? (not antlers)they can hear everything !!
Call timing, and volume, or lack thereof, have brought a lot of animals in to me, but too loud ?? good-by !!
The right sound, at the right time, at the right volume, is deadly, even when the woods are echoing with other hunters.
in reply to: I guess it is "Leap Year" #30584Just an update, figured as to how many interested parties requested info I would go ahead and get my business licence etc.. just to make it “official” and avoid any legal difficulties.
Still plenty of interest, but waiting for definate dates is kind of …..
On the plus side, not much competition, as there only seems to be a few Roosevelt Elk Outfitters/guides but unfortunately they are the ones that have given a bad reputation for others.
I look forward to having a REPUTABLE service with POSITIVE references, and as I am the ONLY one targeting the traditional Archers, I expect great things in the future.
in reply to: Where Would You Live? #30522CareyE wrote: Til its all said and done, there’s no place like home. Sure there are many places I would like to visit and hunt, but I’m pretty sure I would still stay here in PA and chase the whitetails in my favorite spots.
Agree with you, except Washington State, 3 specie of Deer, 2 specie of Elk, 3 specie of Turkey, Black Bear, just about any fish that swims (north America)….
But if we could just send some “transplants” back to their home states, and get a new Governor, and a Game Department that is comprised of hunters and not environmentalists…
in reply to: I guess it is "Leap Year" #18422A little rain on my parade, the 2 from MA are going to pass, going to apply for CO and NM instead 🙁
Oh, well, sure somebody else will take their spots, they just seemed like a good fit…
in reply to: I guess it is "Leap Year" #58475Had a good conversation the other day with a couple guys from MA, real interested on being there for the opener, no matter what day it is…
that puts me at 3 serious, and several that are curious….
Looking forward to a great season !!!
Going this weekend to dig some Razor Clams, and another dig in April, so I am able to can and freeze a bunch, then I gotta get out to catch a Sturgeon or two, The only steelhead right now are “native” so I cannot retain…..
getting ready for this September is a lot of work !!
in reply to: I guess it is "Leap Year" #42693The post I was referring to was https://www.tradbow.com/members/cfmbb/messages.cfm?threadid=A87A410B-1422-1DE9-ED3CE6CAC153271F
just getting a lot more responses than I had anticipated, the logistics of getting hunters to/from camp is going to be the biggest challenge, but should have it all worked out long before September gets here.
in reply to: Tent Recommendations #33609As a guy that used to sleep in a Hammock and cheap 2 man tents, before the family came along, I have rarely been dissapointed by Coleman. just figure double (or half) what the “occupancy” is stated, the more room you have, the more comfortable you will be.
I dream of some day being able to afford a Kifaru
in reply to: Primitive Spot'n'stalk #11337Excellent !!
