in reply to: Great service – Braveheart Archery #40323
Without a doubt, Tim gives top notch service! I have always got my orders fast! I wish he carried more stuff than he does, he’d definitely get more of my business if he did.
in reply to: ASAT CAMO ANYONE? #9140Its to light for me since they changed it but my old set has a darker shade of tan as the base color. I’ve had elk look at me from 3 feet and could not figure out what I was. And of course the birds land on you.
in reply to: Looking for a good broad head #15546I like the Werewolfs
in reply to: Who Hunts Alone Most of the Time? #57476I’ve hunted alone for a very long time. Partially because I don’t know anyone that hunts with a bow or has a similar hunting style. Riding around on a quad all day is not my idea of hunting that they seem to enjoy. I like to bring home the bacon and fill the freezer, sitting on a quad doesn’t allow me to do that. Besides, my soul yearns for the simplicity of nature without the modern conveniences. Hunting with a bow allows me to go back in time to when things weren’t so complicated.
in reply to: How many bows do you have? #54179I’ve tried quite a few bows over the last few yrs but if I couldn’t shoot them accurately I sold em. Even if it meant selling them at a small loss, which was usually the case. I now have one, a Black Oynx ILF riser with two sets of limbs. Border Hex5’s that come in at about 50@28 58″ bow. The other set is a pair of Samick Extremes that I can get 54@28 60″ bow. Both limbs will shoot the same arrows with the same head weight. I am deadly with this bow and will not be selling it anytime soon if ever.
I also have 3 compounds and one is for sale. I can’t quite get up the nerve to get rid of the other two just yet.
in reply to: Looking for some broadhead help #55993+1 on the Eclipse heads and they will fly well at 270fps if his arrow is spined right.
in reply to: File Sharpening Single Bevel Broadheads #13560If the bevel is already 25 degrees don’t change it, most are. Just file from back to front to create a burr. Then flip it over and very lightly remove the burr. Once you get the hang of it it is really easy imo.
in reply to: 150 grain single bevel? #25459The Werewolf 150’s are in stock and worked very well for me last month. I will be using them again.
in reply to: Does a few extra grains make a difference? #61257Another good arrow to try is the Victory VForce HV’s. The 006’s are pretty reasonably priced. They are 31″ uncut and out of my 52# longbow cut 3/16 past center add shelf material and its about -1/16 past center. On a 350 I use 3 4″ feathers, 50gr brass insert, 300 gr Tuffhead for a total arrow weight of 575grs. Foc is 28.5%. For a bow that is +1/16 you’d have to add more head weight to get the spine right and could easily get into the 30’s for foc. I am going to experiment with 300 spined shafts at some point.
in reply to: Left Helical VS. Right Helical #60607I use right right now but have used left in the past. I had a bow one time that for some reason would not get good arrow flight with right wing arrows. Some guys that are right handed will shoot left because their left hand is so close to the shelf that right wing feathers cut their hand, I have experienced this with a few bows I had. I don’t have any problems with the bows I shoot now but I will be experimenting with lefts again after this hunting season. Left bevel heads are easier for me to sharpen being right handed and that reason alone would make it worth it to switch.
in reply to: Does a few extra grains make a difference? #60595It might because the 100 gr insert is longer than the standard aluminum, although only 3/8″ of an inch. But the insert takes that section of arrow out of the spine equation and a 100gr insert would make the same length arrow slightly stiffer than the arrow thats using a standard insert. At least thats how I understand it. Will it make a difference in arrow flight? maybe maybe not? I would try it and see.
in reply to: HEAVY SPINE/ GREAT FLIGHT??? #30619Broadhead orientation with carbon arrows, or any other for that matter, does not make one iota’s bit of difference. Its an old wives tale. I would not ever, comes from experience, heat the insert thats been glued into a carbon shaft. If it gets to hot the carbon looses its straightness and your heads will no longer spin true. The arrow is now basically ruined.
in reply to: recommendations for a recurve #60652I have a compound thats 60 and have shot that weight for a long time. I can sit down, hold that compound straight out in front of me and pull it back without having to push pull or strain in any way. I’ve shot traditional bows around 57 or so but now shoot around 50 to 52 pounds. Looking back that 57 was to heavy and I shoot the 50 to 52’s a heck of a lot better. So, I guess what I’m saying is go 8 to 10 pounds lighter if you can handle that compound like I do.
As far as bows go? Thats a toss up, there are so many good recurves on the market to choose from. The most important thing I’ve found though is the handle. You want something that fits you so it falls in the same place every time. If it doesn’t, at least for me, I get torque and the arrows go left or right to often. Maybe you can find a local traditional shoot/club and go try some out to find what you like.
in reply to: Bow Weight Reduction #26467I did this myself one time on a takedown set of limbs. I called the bowyer and he advised taking some material off the edges. I lost 3lbs by doing that. I then took off another two pounds by slowly taking down the glass. It worked perfect and other than the obvious speed loss from a lighter weight, you could not tell at all. Same bow and it shot great.

I don’t think that will work. You could use a dremel like in this video.

I’ve always used an arrow saw, I bought one 20 yrs ago and its still going strong.
