Need some tips. Heading to Texas for a pig hunt. Have never pursued them. Looking to do some spot and stalk. Just don’t know much about their habits.

Well, do some recon of the area to find water holes and possible feeding grounds. Are there any grain fed cattle that will be near by? If so, the hogs will be close to that scrumptious sweet feed. AND believe it or not, hogs eat cow poo. There is still quite a bit of nutrients that get passed along. Hogs love acorns too. Their signature is unmistakeable. Where ever they have been rooting around or nesting will look like a case of frag grenades went off. They literally tear up everything. Hogs have a superb olfactory system, so like any other querry stay up wind. Most hogs Ive gotten into dont seem to be too skitish, not like deer. Once you’ve done your recon, plan your route out. Be out there well before day break cuz the hogs will out about 30 min prior. Ive not run across the little piggies during full on day time but it could happen. Then, be on the lookout again shortly before twilight. Hope this helps, just my experience from huntin hogs. Ive never sat in a blind or stand, Im a ground pounder. Have fun, stay safe, and good luck.

      Coldpak,

Wild pigs? Well, they are nasty, smelly, mean, malicious, despicable, ugly, vile, respulsive and will eat anything including you. Of course, they have some bad habits too! 😀

Seriously, they are a great hunt!

Thanks for the feed back guys. Looking forward to having a run in with the pigs, and yes they are free range on a large cattle ranch. hopefully send out some pics when we get back.
