As most readers know I’m not much of a TV fan, but since I’m sitting on my butt recovering from surgery I’m actually watching some and being pleasantly surprised. The HBO series “True Detective” features terrific performances from Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, and this nice snippet of dialogue. Rust: (MM): “You ever go hunting, Marty?” Marty (WH): Yeah. Ten point buck year before last, fifty yards. Rust: “I’m not talking about sitting in a tree house waiting to ambush a buck come to sniff your bait. I’m talking about tracking.” Marty (later voice over): “Rust’s Daddy taught him bowhunting… ” Nice to see us portrayed positively on TV for a change. Don

True Detectives is a great show Don, and like a white whale of contemporary tv one if it’s remarkable features is actually having an ending.
I don’t think the following dialogue from ‘How I Met Your Mother’ does anything in particular to promote bowhunting, but it involves it and still makes me laugh. The context is when a couple announce they are pregnant, a trio of their friends, 2 men and 1 woman, argue over who is going to be the god parent…
Barney: If Ted raises him the poor kid’s still gonna be a virgin when he’s 13. I’m the obvious choice.
Robin: Hey look, as the only one here packin a vag I got a natural instinct for nurturing and crap like that plus I could teach him how to bow hunt.

Don,
A few friends and I reference True Detective at work a times. When we get into situations that are reminiscent of parts of the show somebody throws out a Rust quote. But that scene you reference when they track that fellow is great. I enjoyed the voice over of the story they tell of what occurred while actually watching what really happens go down. A well done show…enjoy the end.
I shot my bow today!

Good comments all. Bad as TV can be, some of the extended series being done now are indeed terrific. Other recommendations: Game of Thrones (read the books first, but don’t start until hunting season is over), House of Cards, Downton Abbey. I’ll check out some of your recommendations too. Don

Killed cable couple weeks ago. NONE of us has missed it, and I save $$. Youtube for all three of us now (more fun than looney tunes). Fred Bear, Byron Ferguson, and Peter Fiduccia are our favs. Obviously we are getting social deficit, here because we have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Didn’t even know those shows existed….

Grumpy–In principle I’m with you. When the kids were growing up. we did not allow TV or electronic games in the house at all. Most TV is garbage, but there are exceptions to every rule and this is one of them. Don
