Dave — Most bowyers won’t touch cutting a bow in half to make it into a take-down. Unless, perhaps, it’s a wood bow, and even then I don’t recommend it, having done it once. Good take-downs have to be designed through the handle a risers for that purpose. My advice, if you need a take-down, is to buy one. Otherwise you could wind up out some money in the effort and have no bow at all. Of course I could be wrong (my wife tells me I was once). Dave

There is a nice build-along on doing just that on the pirates of archery website in one of the bowyer subforums.

You can get the materials from the following website:
            http://www.shop.bigjimsbowcompany.com/Takedown-Kits-BB001.htm

I haven’t yet done it. But I have seen several examples at local shoots that seemed satisfactory.

You might give big jim bow company a call and ask their advice. I think they are coming out with a video on it. They might also do the work…

Tried doing the same thing myself. The bow never shot the same again no matter what I tried. Still shoots good but not the same as before. Would strongly suggest that you buy a longbow that is built as a take down. Best wishes

If your feeling handy enough to do it your self, you may consider building your own from scratch. Bingham Projects has every thing you would need (except the power tools). If you haven’t made your own bow yet, you should try it. It is very satisfying.

I’ll second this suggestion. Bingham Projects is how I got started many moons ago. I only build for myself and family, but it has saved me a bundle of $$$$$$. Not only that, but it’s really great when someone ask who built my bow and I get to say “I did”.
