Tradbow.com is a work in progress. This site, like our magazine, is about traditional bowhunting and directly related positive topics. We are about good personal stories, exchanging ideas and skills, sharing, and politely expressing a wide range of experiences — and of course, opinions — about topics in the trad bowhunting world. The Topics Outside of Traditional Bowhunting forum isn’t a comfortable fit and we have decided to discontinue it, effective immediately. Meanwhile, we are elated with the high quality of members, posts, topics, information and enthusiasm we’re enjoying on our other, on-topic forums. We appreciate you, and we hope you appreciate what we’re trying to do here at your Tradbow.com.

Hi Robin,
I understand the reasoning but I quite like ‘Topics Outside of Traditional Bowhunting’ it gave a broader perspective on members and produced some vigorous debate.
Mark.

So what happens if these types of topics appear in the other forums? Will they simply be deleted?
I will say that Topics Outside Trad Bow was not the first place I go to on the forum but I do think it has its place. Other sites include such a place for folks to discuss or ask non- Trad Bow questions/topics.
Maybe there was some out of hand discussion that I missed that made you guys decide to nix it. I’m kind of surprised to see this happen.Duncan

Sometimes it is easier to quell an issue before it becomes one. I completely understand 8^). George

Robin,
Good call! If you look at most any other site, it’s always the off-topic forum that devolves into a cyber brick fight. To be honest, I thought the off-topic forum here was the most respectful and calm one I’ve encountered, but it’s best not to tempt fate.

I am shocked-shocked and dismayed that my carefully crafted posts and that of certain others are now in the dustbin of cyber purgatory. Are they gone forever or do they await the resurrection by some cyber-archaeologist of the future intent on discovering the mind-set of early 21st century primitives?
Has Political Correctness sunk low enough to invade even a Traditional Bowhunter site whereupon certain ‘topics’ are forbidden to be mentioned much less debated in a cogent, rational manner by its members? Do the unseen but omnipotent ‘Administrators’ have that right and power?
The answer is-Yes, thank God!
I regret- since there’s no ‘My Apologies’ page anymore- to have been a player in the demise of the forum but unfortunately, like most human endeavors, corruption sets in, either slowly, or in this case, increasingly rapidly and we end up in a ‘High Noon’ situation(without Grace Kelly) with drawn bows at fifty yards, curses on our lips at our unworthy opponents who are just too stupid to agree with me or you.
So the adults, who run this most excellent site, decided wisely to pull the plug before it descended into another ‘HuffingtonPost’ screaming invectives and expletives at each other-I mean, we have enough controversies with longbow vs recurve; wood, aluminum or carbon arrows; three or four fletch and size; glove vs tabs; to EFOC or not EFOC; where’s the best place to stick a hog and various other topics germane to our interests without invoking and involving those two, guaranteed to ruffle feathers subjects- Politics and Religion.
Besides, this is a private business site and we are but invited guests allowed to sit at the feast and partake of the banquet, if we mind our manners.
This is what occurs when opinionated old geezers(Patrick and those under sixty excepted) have too much time on their hands during a long, cold and dreary winter, everything’s going to hell-in-a-handbasket(including ourselves!) and our beloved country is(in our opinion) under assault once again by the powers of stupidity(see, there I go again!).
We but await the warming Springtime sun, with the promise of wintermelt and signs of life in the urgency of crocus, daffodil and wake robin; to cast off these winter doldrums and stretch our atrophied archery muscles to the weight of our draw and once again loose the singing shafts, brightly fletched and steel tipped at our uncovered targets.
But it’s only February, so go grab some hot chili and the libation of your choice(in moderation of course!) and quit bitching!
The Good Lord Bless and Keep all of you-Bert -
Most respectfully to those whom it may concern-Query-Since we no longer have a ‘Topics Outside of Trad Bow’ forum where(re Duncan’s post) are we going to place such diverse subjects such as Dan’s(StandingBear) knife making tips, Patrick’s ‘Avatar’ movie review, the members book selections(which I found very informative), Dave’s recipe for elk heart and morels with the reduced Merlot sauce(MMMM!), and others?
Just as a suggestion, mind you, perhaps the forum could be relabeled ‘Topics Outside Trad Bow- No Politics-No Religion- No venting of Spleen- No Exceptions’. I, for one, would solemnly pledge to never mention or discuss those verboten subjects on this forum ever again. Violators would be punished by having to sharpen and return at their own expense, the broadheads of those in the thread.
Just an idea to raise up the ole’ flagpole and see if anybody salutes it!
I remain,
Sincerely yours.

Bert — I think all of that (except the verbotens, as you say) fit fine right here at the Campfire circle and will make it all the more interesting. Anyhone who’s made the hunting site circuit should easily understand what we are trying to avoid, and accomplish, and why. I am a veteran and sometimes instigator of pointless bickering and negativity myself, elsewhere and long ago. Coming here is and will remain like going to the woods — a happy place of sanity and good humor, where all feel safe to join the conversation. The “other topics” title in inself seemed to invite controvery. So yeah, just consider this Campfire forum open to reasonable extensions of our common interest and friendship. No need to separate it out. We are trying hard! Thanks for doing the same. dave 😀

Bert, do you need an oxygen tank so you don’t pass out? LOL

What happened? I was gone for 2 weeks (took the family to costa rica for 2 weeks to wait out the worst of the weather) and was planning on posting some pictures on the “outside” forum.
I was hoping somebody missed me and put a “where’s steve graf” message there too 8)
Oh well, all the exciting stuff seems to happen when I’m not looking…
Oh yea, I’m back, thanks for asking 😯

Well…So many people were concerned about your absence that all we were doing was posting updates on your where-abouts or, more precisely…where you were not. “Nope, he’s not here” can only be posted so many times. It reached a crescendo when someone wrote out your eulogy. I think it was at that point that Robin decided we needed to move on, and deleted the entire sub-forum. I thought it was kinda like throwing out the baby with the bath water, but she’s the boss.
WELCOME BACK! 😀

It seems there are plenty of other forums out there addressing issues not related to traditional archery and bow hunting.
Hasta la vista, baby.

I am over sixty also and I recon this is the best time to do some scouting…(weather and aches and pains permitting):D
I just want to say this is a great site and I am proud to be here. I am glad there is some wise senior members I can relate too. So thanks to you for your very interesting posts.Tom

Sorry fellers. For what little it’s worth, I am 64, going on 18. ‘Nuff said about age divisions. Steady on, dave 8)

I like it, the decision to end the off topic section, and this site as a whole. I’m a lurker ( you know, the guy that sits around the campfire with 5 others but talks or interjects little) and will remain so.
Very nice place to check in to pass the winter dulldrums.

You know, my Momma used to say if you can’t say somethin’ nice don’t say nothin’ at all. And now that is the rule on this website.
If you’re gonna handcuff me then I don’t think this should be allowed.
