I found 2 heads once in the same briar patch.
I’d been following a blood trail I came across. It led into the tangle and I got down and crawled into the mess. Took me an hour to find my way out and never found the deer (guess it was a deer?). But I did come across 2 nice heads and retrieved them. They hang on the barn to this day. Both are the largest racks seen on farm by neighbors and family, dead or alive.
You make arizona seem like a great place! My folks used to get Arizona Highways (I think that’s the name) magazine when I was a kid. I spent untold hours gazing in awe at the pictures and reading the articles.

That’s pretty cool, Steve… makes you wonder if anyone did what you did on that blood trail…?
Once here in PA, 2nd season, I was on a Flintlock Muzzleloader hunt… got into some really thick stuff like that and was pushing the ole smoke pole ahead of me on hands and knees…
Came to a tiny clearing and there was deer hair all over…and bear skat with deer hair.
We knew there was an old sow up there with a couple cubs, but nobody hunted her…
I felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up… and there was a small buck head there…
it had been twisted around and around and around till it popped off the carcass which was pretty well devoured. The neck of the head came to a point…and the spinal column was just a twisted piece of string all knotted up.
I stood up, started singing at the top of my lungs and BULLED my way outa there post haste!
Didn’t want to be confronting any ole Sow and cubs in their dining room!
You mentioned that magazine…we too got that at home… pretty stuff, but seemed very far away. Still does! Whole other “planet” from what I know!
