Here’s the latest from BHA for those of you who had questions about my lighter weight tarp.

What is the name of that water proofing stuff? and does it smell, as in do the deer smell it?

nikwax. I sprayed it on my backpack and could smell it for a few days. I couldn’t smell it at all after that. I’d think that if a deer smells it, he’s also smelling what you had for breakfast.

Great information! Does anyone know where I can get a nylon or other lightweight material sheet that has grommets on it? Like a 10’x10′ piece?

You should be able to get a light weight tarp, and just buy a grommet making kit. I’ve done that before with various tarps, and you can put the grommets exactly where you want them.

Checkout http://www.boundarywaterscatalog.com They carry 10×10 nylon tarps with grommets in place and tie tapes attached. Been using mine as a makeshift shelter or as a dining fly for years.
