Tusker Concorde. They run $4-6 each depending on style/weight. I like them real well – does take some time to figure out how to sharpen them, but once you get the knack, they do get razor sharp.

My next purchase I will try the new Tuffheads that are out. They are getting rave reviews on this forum but I think they’re more like $15 each. Worth it though from what everyone says.

You can get the Tusker Concorde factory sharpened in a few sizes but the cost jumps up. Mike.

Clay — I agree with Mike that the Tusker is a good head. And it’s semi-crude looks make it appear almost as a trade head, which should sit well with your primitive preferences. I’ve killed elk with them and they’re the cheapest quality single-bevel I’m aware of. Brown Bear is also excellent and I recently found out that the stiff price increase there is due to them having their heads sharpened by KME so they can sell them hunt-ready. KME gets $5 a head for that and in my experience it’s well worth it. Meanwhile, I’m going with the new Tuffheads, which also are professionally sharpened though not by KME (it’s the SteelForce folks, I think). The promising new Werewolf heads are supposed to be factory super-sharp as well, though anything but primitive looking. That seems to be a trend, professional sharpening, and a good one despite the cost, since until now the various and growing number of single-bevels often have had slightly different bevel angles, like the older Grizzlies at 23 degrees, and now with the professional sharpening they are becoming standardized at 25 degrees as recommended by the Ashby study. Nobody I’ve talked to has any idea about what’s happening with Grizzly. They’re still running ads in TBM and it doesn’t make sense to just shut down a company that surely could be sold for a fair price. Yet, as you say, where have they gone? and for how long? If anyone knows I’d think it would be Dr. Ashby or Sharpster at KME and I haven’t heard from either of them on the mystery. dp

All I know is I’ve had to do some seriuos wheeling and dealing just to pick up afew extra heads. Been wondering myself as to what is going on and what will happen.

I just Tanto tipped some Zwickey No Mercy heads and sharpened them. They fly well but are definately not in the Abowyer and above class for QUALITY. I got them for those times I don’t want or need an expensive head.
I also got a note from the folks at VPA and they said single bevel Penetraters may be available next year but they are great looking if you want a double bevel head. I am trying to solve your same question also.

If I had an answer I’d sure pass it along, but I’ve no idea what the problem is.

Last weekend I heard some second-hand info from one of the broadhead manufacturers I know. I don’t want to crank up a rumor mill, so short of confirmation I’ll just say that you may want to look elsewhere for broadheads this season.

I just looked at the site where I found some Grizzlies for $20 this spring and they don’t even list them.

No more grizzlies this year and maybe forever. They are not replying to emails and I had to hunt high and low to swing 6 last week. Funny thing was it was a local shop than had them and they had been there for years. It was the old ones that were 190 grains.

I hunted with the Abowyer Brown Bears last year and love the head, but not the cost.

I just got some of the Tuskers in, both 155 and 190 grain single bevels and they are good looking heads, but tougher than most to sharpen. I’m going to give them a try this year, but hate that they aren’t made in the the good ole USA.

Ditto — I was looking all spring found 6 at my local [ mostly Modern ] bow shop { been there a long time according to the young salesman}. Went to the Tuffhead, and will hunt with those this year–
I heard that the co [Grizzly] sold and was moved from Co — to somewhere back east [ clouderspot Pa- 814 274 0905 the ad says in tradbow]
But no one I contacted, at all the well known tradbow purveyors had any or knew when they would?

I was disappointed when I couldn’t find any. I needed to get some new arrows made up so I went with some STOS heads, but hopefully the Grizzlies will show up again before too long.

Called the Phone Number shown in the Grizz ad [PA]for a couple days now. Get a recording that says–” no one available to answer your call – please call again” doesn’t seem to have a provision to leave a message ?!
I guess the outfit is not operational for the time being —

Dang it, Clay!

Now you made me go out and find a half dozen cause I never did try out the El Grande. Shot a few 160s but not the big boys. Just never got to it.

Found 6, half new half used.

Thought I better grab em before they arent around. Do a comparison (if lucky) on them alongside the Tuffhead.
