It has been twenty years since Traditional Bowhunter® was first published, and the Oct/Nov 2009 issue that is going to press this Thursday is our Anniversary Issue. In this issue, Don Thomas sat down with Larry and me and we discussed the beginnings of the magazine, from the first issue, to our growth, to today. It isn’t as in-depth as many would like (then again, maybe they wouldn’t!), but it does shed some light on the history of our business.

All of us here at TBM would like to say thank you for all the support, constructive criticism, and general comments along the way. It doesn’t seem that long ago, but when I stop and look back, it was indeed a full lifetime of adventure, trials and tribulations, and amazement.

Much thanks, and I do hope you will enjoy the interview.

To all at Traditional Bowhunter Magazine

I would like to say congratulations on achieving such a milestone and I look forward to receiving my anniversary issue.

And thank you for all your efforts over the years in creating such a wonderful magazine, I have not been a subscriber for all that time but I plan to be for a long time to come.

One thing I would like to add that you probably don’t appreciate and that is the contribution you make to traditional bowhunters outside the USA. In Europe we have nothing like this publication and the magazine and website make a huge contribution to the enjoyment of our sport.

Here’s to the next twenty years, Mark.

T.J. — Traditional archery was barely breathing when you and Larry took the amazing risk of bringing out a new magazine with next to no reader or advertiser base. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that TBM saved trad bowhunting! Even today, the bulk of your advertisers are Ma and PA operators and that too separates us from the larger bowhunting world where big industry rules. Frankly, aside from some excellent group pubs like Comptons and PBS magazines, TBM is the only hunting magazine I’ve read for years, because you alone remain fiercely devoted to the root values and ethics and self-respect of our sport. Never seen a damn ATV ad in TBM and would have a heart attack if we ever did! Someone once said “If we don’t stand for something, we stand for nothing.” TBM stands for a lot! Congratulations, and looking forward to the new issue and another 20 years. You have enriched many lives. Snuffy 😀

              Snuffy,
Thank You, your comments made the last 20 years of trials and tribulations worth every second. It has been our pleasure to serve and we hope to continue for the next 20 as well. I want to thank all of those subscribers and advertisers that believed in us, we could not have done it with out you!
              Larry

Posted elsewhere on the same topic, and started two similar threads on other sites, but wanted to jump in here and say CONGRATS and THANKS as well.

And loved this issue’s broadhead study! Evidence for what I’ve believed all along.

Thanks for all you do for traditional bowhunting and bowhunters.

I’d like to echo those above and say “Nice job”. I’ve enjoyed your magazine more than any other. In fact, when I had to “tighten the belt” at home I decided that your magazine would be the ONE to keep. Quite literally. I look forward to it’s arrival in my mailbox every two months. It also brings me enjoyment at the end of the day at work. Thank you so much and I look forward to another 20 yrs.
