Hey Clay, good video

Fundamentals are worth practicing and re-visiting no matter how far along an archer has advanced in there skill. I’m re-working my shooting after a ~5 year absence so this video is much appreciated. I like how you mention your blend of hill/ferguson styles; the reference is handy for those of us who have an understanding of how those archers executed their marksmanship. I also find that instinctive shooting is conceptually/philosophically easy to understand (e.g., throwing baseballs, rocks, apples, etc.), but very difficult to execute consistently.

I went out to the back yard today and tried to focus on a few of the things that you mentioned, particularly on consistent back tension, lining the form/body up with the intended point of impact and the bow arm/hand having a “jump toward” the target. All helpful elements to be conscious of during practice!

Another concise and informative video. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. I don’t use the tip of my arrow to aim until I get back around 30 yards. I’m going to give it a swing a little closer and see how it goes. Thanks! dwc

You have out did yourself again. Great video. Some of us, of course, don’t need that as we shoot consistently and accurately 8) But occasionally I’m asked to help with shooting skills and this will help.:D

I think taking video’s of yourself shooting really helps. I sure wish I had a camera that would allow me to slow the motion down… One of these days, I’m gonna hit that barn 😳 🙄

My iPhone 6 Plus records pretty good slow-motion video. I’ll try to post up some shooting video to demonstrate that. Meanwhile, here’s a ceiling fan rotating at top speed:

Indeed. It requires more effort than I could summon while lounging on the sofa.

BTW, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus record at 240 fps and play at 30 fps as well. Plus I can order a pizza, play the latest excellent vid from Twisted Stave Media and shop for deeply discounted GoPro Heroes all at the same time. 😉

How can you do that laying on the couch? I would have to lay down when I’m done with all that. Seriously, neat tool in the right hands. dwc

Interesting description of back tension, something I’ve always struggled to understand will be putting your suggestion into practice tomorrow.

Well tomorrow finally arrived, could not have hit a cow on backside with a shovel. No reflection on Clay’s video, operator error, went back to basics and finally shot three good arrows and packed up.
