Born October 27, 1858, President Theodore Roosevelt’s conservation vision not only created our national forest system in 1908, but also preserved some of our most treasured landscapes to ensure America’s natural heritage would be carried on for future generations. Today thanks to President Roosevelt we boast federal wildlife reservations, national game preserves, national forests, national parks and national monuments that encompass over 234 million acres of our treasured public lands.
So as we reflect on all the good work we do, think of a fond memory of your favorite wild place and raise a glass in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt’s leadership & vision on conservation that makes most of our work possible. Cheers
Happy Birthday Mr. President!
“We have fallen heirs to the most glorious heritage a people ever received, and each one must do his part if we wish to show that the nation is worthy of its good fortune.”
“The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased and not impaired in value.”
“Great thoughts speak only to the thoughtful mind, but great actions speak to all mankind.”
— President Theodore Roosevelt

I just found a BRAND new book by Douglas Brinkley titled:
“The Wilderness Warrior: Theodore Roosevelt and the Crusade for America”
Looks like a good book. It’s a monster though. About the same size as “The Rise and Fall of The Third Reich”, and that took me FOREVER to read! It’ll have to stand in line. I’m working on two of Dave Peterson’s books right now. 😉
