in reply to: New T/D Recurve #18440
Wow!!! Something so beautiful, but still fully functional. Nice art work there, Troy. Wish you were a bit closer, I have a ton of black walnut that we had milled down several years ago, sitting in back stall of the barn, just waiting to be turned into a nice piece of art.
in reply to: First With Trad Gear #13878Welcome, and awesome job….congratulations.
in reply to: KME Broadhead sharpener, Single Bevel? #52966Does anyone know what the difference would be between the KME Knife Sharpener and the Lansky Knife Sharpener? Other than the obvious price difference.
I’ve had a Lansky Knife Shapener for several years, and it works great on knives, haven’t tried it on the single bevel broadheads.
in reply to: New longbow! #22752Very nice looking bow you have there!
in reply to: Cover scent! #15853Being from the South and not quiet an old-timer in age, just in mental capacity (I shoulda been born 100 years ago). We have used tomato juice on dogs a LOT for getting rid of skunk perfume. It works really great until your wife/mom/grandma (whichever the case happens to be at the time of application) figures out you are using one of her “prized home canned” tomatos to wash that “stinking dog” with 😀 It does work quiet well. 1 Quart home canned tomatos will do a Lab sized dog very well.
in reply to: Newbie looking for first longbow #8410I’m new as well to trad scene. My compound went to my nephew to get him out in the woods more.
After reading on this site, and spending some time in the not-so-local archery store, I walked out with a Bear Montana 45#, and have loved it since. Nicely made bow, from a well-known company, shoots great!
in reply to: My first kill with a bow #52338I think it’s pretty impressive to be able to take a rabbit with an arrow!!! Good job.
in reply to: Need some help on a Bear Grizzly #50966Thanks everyone for the help! I’ve gotten a B50 Flemish string (ordered 53″ instead of 52″) in order to get a smaller brace height. Starting around 7 3/4″ and go from there. It does draw easier at 7 3/4″ over the 9″+.
in reply to: Need some help on a Bear Grizzly #44574OK, another question. This bow uses Dacron strings, do I get a longer string and twist to get my brace height? My other bow (longbow) uses FF strings and I’ve had good luck twisting/untwisting to get proper brace height. Just don’t know if it works same way with Dacron, I’m assuming it would.
in reply to: new to archery too #44094Ditto on TJ’s book!!! I got it earlier this year, have already had to have my daughter-in-law (the librarian) do some repair on the book 🙂 Yeah, it’s been gone through that much in just a few months. I keep referring back to it whenever I’m trying something new, or when something “just isn’t right”.
in reply to: Hunting fitness and strength #43201One advantage to being overweight and out-of-shape….it forces you to move slower through the woods 😆
in reply to: New Kanati #18168Is it a bad thing to have bow AND knife envy? Great looking setup you have there!
in reply to: Where Would You Live? #27817Grew up in Arkansas, moved to Colorado in ’94 and spent 6 1/2 years there. 5 of which got to spend a week each year tracking elk (not shooting any, always seemed to be just behind them).
Moved back to Arkansas in ’01, been here since. We may not have the biggest trophies out there, but we do have some of the best all around hunting opportunities. A nice long archery season (Sept 15 – Feb 28th). And lots of other “critters” to chase.
So, my vote would be Arkansas 1st, Colorado second…
in reply to: been awhile but i'm back… #25054Sam,
I’m right there with you on looking at the Montana. I’m currently shooting an older (’70s model) Bear Grizzly, but want to get a longbow. I went to the bow shop and shot the Montana and really enjoyed it.
I’m still a newbie at shooting traditional, so can’t help you with details, but can say I did like the Montana.
