in reply to: question about stoves #22330
My aging joints has forced me to adopt a lot of the ultralight backpacking methods. One of which is a very lightweight stove that you make yourself. Called by many names, mostly beer-can stoves, these are easy to make and easy to find fuel for. I prefer using denatured alcohol, but HEET works just as well.
Detailed instructions on making your own can be found here:

Once you get it going, it only takes 2 or 3 minutes to get a pot of water boiling.
in reply to: bowfishing reel question? #37734Can you post some pics? This sounds like a great idea, and my favorite price 🙂
in reply to: Squirrel State #13926Arkansas has a pretty long season. Opened May 15th this year and runs to Feb 28th, 2014. Daily limit is 12. Possession limit is 48. With 2 National Forests, there are lot’s of opportunities to find bushy tails. Ouachita National Forest and Ozark National Forest are great areas, lot’s of open camping and hunting opportunities.
in reply to: Small game points? #17077I’m no expert either, but in an effort to save $$$’s, I’ve found that flat washers behind standard field points work very well.
in reply to: First Archery Deer #56502Congratulations!!!! I’m still working on my first.
in reply to: Custom String Keeper's? #46504I’m no expert by any means, but the expert at the local bow shop showed me how to wrap a rubber band around the bottom tip, and then just let the top loop slide down the bow when unstrung.
I’ve looked at the pics on tradgang, doesn’t look like it would be too difficult to make. I may play around with this and see what I can work up. Have less than a week before opening morning though 😀
in reply to: Scentless body lotion? #34929Thanks for a good chuckle, Jody!!!
in reply to: I'm going to give a bow away (winner on pg3) #25892Troy,
I would like to throw in Bralyn Maynard. He’s an 8 yr old boy, good friend of ours, that loves anything outdoors. Currently, his dad has him a youth compound bow that he enjoys shooting. I would like to give him a chance to come over to the fun side of Trad. He has a new little brother, Jacob, a 2 yr old just adopted from S. Korea, to pass the bow onto.
Thanks,
Wendell Allen (aka woodchuck)
in reply to: Bowsocks ?? #22620Tractor Supply Company carries camo Coban for use on horses. Get 4 4″ rolls for around $7. More than enough for wrapping several bows. Stickes very well to itself, leaves no residue on limbs, and does not affect shooting. Drawback is the smell, not sure why this smells so bad, but leave it outside (under cover of course) for a few days and the smell goes away. Here’s the link :http://www.tractorsupply.com/powerflex-reg-value-pack-woodland-camo-pack-of-4-1014732
If you don’t have a tractor supply around, might check similar type stores

in reply to: Surplus Wool Quality? (it just showed up) #20460Hey Justin, just curious where you ordered online. I’m looking more for mid-weight to light-weight. Doesn’t really get “that cold” here in Arkansas
in reply to: I'm going to give a bow away (winner on pg3) #20454Nice bow, looks like it would fit my hands perfect 🙂
