in reply to: Shots From the Past #27892
Some things evolve and ethics change with time, but to have the “true grit” of those men in those days with their (by our standards) antiquated clothing and gear, is just shy of flippin amazing to this old hoss! 😯
Right on!8)

in reply to: Shots From the Past #25850Smith, thanks for that! I really enjoy seeing pics and reading about the earlier days of hunting and archery!

in reply to: New string keeper #24160Alex, very cool bow. I have been wanting a self bow. I wish I had more time to learn how to make one…
in reply to: Spring shoot #16732Brennan is right. No scores or competition here. Well, just friendly competion between us!:D
Alex, my bow is a Striker TDL 51# 58″
in reply to: Spring shoot #16317no “rules” on these trad courses. just safety.
they have the stakes set for your shot, but we usually stir it up a bit and make the shots as hard or as easy as we want. we/i go to these 3d shoots for fun and practice for hunting situations. by the way, i stump too. equally as fun and challenging, and it too is lots of fun with a good friend!8)
in reply to: Spring shoot #15703Western PA is where we do the 3d shoots.
Western MD is where Mike lives and we rove.
Brennan should be more informative!!:D
in reply to: Spring shoot #15650Brennan and I had a blast, like always.
Brennan gets the shot of the day award.
Direct heart shot on a boar at 60 yards…first shot!
in reply to: Silencers (or the lack thereof) #14329One more thing, I would love a campfire with all you guys!
I’ll bring the Bourbon. 8)
in reply to: Silencers (or the lack thereof) #14327I will chime in my 2cents.
First off, Steve turray uses d97 string, which is by all my testing the best string material out there. Quiet and fast. I found that 14 strand of 97 on 45-51# is good!
Now for silencers, I did a test on all of them. I found that beaver balls are the best in my opinion. With beaver, I did not loose any fps over no silencer. 4db quieter then no silencer. Which was noticeably quieter.
This of course is just my opinion and my results.
Hope it helps.8)
in reply to: Shaking the Rust Off #14317I am with Mike and Brennan.
Shooting everyday! I have a 5 yard indoor, and I I open door to garage, I can get 10. I also walk as much as possible, push-ups, core and regular yoga routine.
Mike, Brennan and I shot lights out today! Brennan landed a direct heart shot on a boar at 60 yards!
There is a nice 3d next week. Get up here and shoot!
Enough of the boat shopping already!8)
This is a great thread.
I was fortunate to hear a wolf howl while in Canada last spring. It was scary for me to hear that for the first time. But since then, I have evolved into more of an ehical hunter/outdoorsman and I would love to be in the woods and hear my fellow hunters again.
It is hard to find that kind of wilderness here is good old western PA.
