WOW. If this is all for real….this dude is my hero!:D
in reply to: Spine weight increase for woods #17584I too am a lover of longbows and wood! I shoot doug fir as well right now. I am going to try hard woods soon. The highest foc I got was 17%.
Steve is right. On wood, weight is first objective!
My next experiment is hard woods and different type of feather cuts. I went from 5″ trad cuts to a 4″ trad cut.
Anyone try 3″ or 4″ 4 fletch?
in reply to: Arrow Speed/Weight Set Up-Opinions #8534steve, thanks for the response. lots of good info there!
brennan, ya, i have been thinking about this for a while now.
i know that we all want to shoot the heaviest arrow with as much weight out front as possible. but, at what cost?? these animals react quick to noise and i dont want to put a good shot out there just to have a deer jump the string!
i am not a speed freak at all. but, i want a heavy arrow that gets to my quarry with a reasonable speed!
i am curious on everyones opinion and experience on this subject!8)
in reply to: What ya got goin? #62966Keep us posted! And congrats again! I love getting new bows!
in reply to: What ya got goin? #62874Sounds like it will be a nice bow. Congrats on your purchase.
Now the waiting game!:( How long you have to wait?
in reply to: What ya got goin? #62502Congrats John. No debt is freedom! I hate owing even a dollar to a credit card!
I think a bow would be a nice reward! But be careful, it is addicting! I think I bought and sold over 15 last year until I setttled on 4. 2 of which are custom built for me with one more on the way in 6 months.
Stay warm up there!8)
in reply to: Arrow Weights #60101letitgo, Welcome! You just got lots of great info. Most of us trad guys shoot 3d for hunting practice and fun. So we all shoot the same arrow set ups. I typically shoot 11.5-12 gpp arrows with at least 20% efoc. I recomend sticking with one aroow/bow set up at a time. Enjoy the ride!8)
in reply to: Last PA bow hunt #58522I too roughed it out on Saturday. Very cold and windy. I think it was -2 with the wind chill. I saw a big 4 point, be did not get close enough. The snow was crunchy and hard to keep my moving quiet.
All in all, it was one of my best hunting seasons to date. Even though I did not kill any deer. I passed on quit a few, and could not get that shot on some others.
I cant wait till the new season!
My 2015 goal is to stump shoot ALOT this year!

The Carbou and birds come back about the same time so i have a month booked off.I had a bunch of meat destroyed by a wolverine a few years back and one friends tried to park is yahama bravo on top of one to protect his dogs and it lifted the snow machine off of it self they are not to be messed with.
John, Wow, sounds like it would be an awsome hunt!!
Those wolverines must be mean!!
[quote=Smithhammer]Cameron – I hope your travels go smoothly, and huge kudos to you for the work you are doing.
Fallguy – no kidding. By all accounts, there are few things nastier than a trapped wolverine! The trciky part is lifting the lid to get the tranquilizer needle on a pole inside the trap and to the target…
John – love to hear more and see some pics, of life in Nunavut when you get a chance. So are you planning on hunting musk ox in the coming year?
in reply to: Last minute Arizona advice for Bruce and I #49006Have fun guys! I am jealous.
Smith, I would take a bottle of Bullet bourbon. It is a good straight if you never had it.
I do not mean to sound naive, but are javelin mean? If so I would take my 357 for a side arm.
As for the hat…I am not an expert there.
Have fun guys and take a bunch of pics!
