in reply to: Is it right, wrong, or the lesser of two evils? #36075
Thanks for the input folks. Decided I would give it a try and am booked for October 19th. Even convinced my Dad to give it a go with me, which is nice since we never get to spend much time together.
in reply to: Is it right, wrong, or the lesser of two evils? #34996True an animal is going to die regardless. But which death is less objectionable? I find the idea of at least participating in my foods death to be preferable to eating that which I do not know anything about. Yet I would still be killing a penned animal and that brings forth mixed emotions. Is either way ethical? Or should I just give up pork .
A penny for your thoughts?in reply to: missing hair on my forearms??? #33976Just a plain butchers steel for woodsmans. A ceramic rod for all else.

in reply to: Got some work to do….. #33968Yup know how you feel. Shot three years right handed then had to make the switch to lefty about two months ago. Can keep em all in a paper plate out to about 10 meters, then it all goes sour. Hopefully a Deer walks within ten yards of me this year.

in reply to: Scent from walking through areas #21283I have noticed this sixth sense as well. If I am picking berries most Deer give me a wide berth but will stay within sight, and do not seem overly concerned. If I am hunting they bolt without a second glance. Your “thicker” scent theory makes more sense than anything else I have ever come across.
in reply to: Moose scouting pics… #21275Man MontanaFord that was close. I always thought of Montana as a fortress for hunters, trappers, and fisherpeople. Guess it can happen anywhere.
in reply to: Drawn for Moose!!! #21270Hey Rocks where are you located
in reply to: Moose scouting pics… #20890Yup its a Beaver.
It is illegal to hunt Beavers in Alberta, with one exception. They may be hunted on private land with the written consent on the landowner, as was the case with this fellow. Kinda like the ultimate bowfishing. And no they don’t taste like chicken.
in reply to: DIY Beaver tail armguard? #19821Hullo Steve.
My plan is to attach the tail to some heavy elk leather on the inside with a thick cut portion of plastic pop bottle in the center for shape.
Thank you for the raw hide instructions. I have the tail thawing in the fridge and will give er the dawn treatment as soon as she’s ready.
And who knows, if I don’t screw up and have enough for two might be able to send you one too.:P -
